You might try some books on the great philosophers. Socratese, Plato, Budda, Confusious, etc. It seems that there is very much a unified theme throughout all great thinkers, which I am beginning to understand now. They were much more elequint than I however, in verbalizing their thoughts.
Also entertain yourself with all the other 21 versions of the bible, the Sepher Yettzira, Cabala, Dead Sea scrolls, Devil worship etc. Do not fear any of these. You will find some valuable knowledge in each. The more you learn, the more you will become wise. In case you didn`t know, many of the books that are missing in the King James version of the Bible can be found in the back of the Catholic Bible (15). There are still seven missing from the original works!

>>such as the bible.
You mean canon of different religions? "Sacred texts"? Geez, where to begin. There's the Koran, the Bhagava Gita, the Upanishads, the Vedas, Tao Te Ching, Book of Mormon, the Egyptian Book of the Dead, Tibetan Book of the Dead, Book of the Law ...

The Tao of Pooh and The Te of Piglet (yes, these books use Winnie the Pooh to illustrate Taoist beliefs)
The Screwtape Letters and The Chronicles of Narnia
There are a lot of good books out there that do not SLAM "unbelievers" if you look.

'The God Delusion', Richard Dawkins
'End of Faith' Sam Harris
'God is Not Great', Christopher Hitchens
'Breaking the Spell', Daniel Dennett
Once you're finished reading these books, based on facts, evidence and science you may like to relax with a little fictious nonsense for the gullible. The Bible should hit the spot.

Even though I don't necessarily believe in God or any Diety, Left Behind is a good series but its based more on the lives of those left behind after the rapture rather than their time on earth and morals.

...First of all try to remember that "religion" has nothing to do with a "relationship" with God... (what "religion is God anyhow?)... "religion" is mans attempt to reach God... God was smart enough to know that "we" could never do that, so "He" simplified the process... (read the Book of John to gain a good understanding of God and His plan...not "religions")... "special" books that attempt to speak for God or try to extol a "religious" point of view do not in any way help understand what God has already anointed thru His Word... "religions" like the Mormons, Scientology, christian science and many of the Roman Church's dogma's, doctrines and bulls only add to "religious" confusion... Read Gods Word... study the Scriptures and pray for Spiritual guidance and you will find all that you seek... Let the "religions" chase God... you've found Him thru His Word.
