I only know different countries have Red Cross similar organizations. If you are looking for a job in the US for that you woudl probably have to go with a job in the military (coast guard etc) FEMA or some other type of organization. In the US the Red Cross is the major one. I also think the United Way has paid positions and I am not sure about Habitat for Humanity.

RE:
What are similar organizations to the Red Cross?
I want to make a list of all organizations that are engaged in the same type of activities as the Red Cross, focusing on emergency preparedness and disaster relief. The reason: I am a returned Peace Corps volunteer looking for a job in this field. Thanks!!!

You have to start out volunteering to get your foot on the ladder of any sort of international NGO career. Red Cross do a lot of volunteer opportunities which are worth looking into. If you have the resources try to do an internship (usually about 2 months unpaid or longer) then you can look into what aspect of emergency relief and/or aid you are better suited to, and where in the world you would like to be placed. Location will influence the sort of work you do (e.g. in developed countries it's about integration of refugees/ homelessness/ youth centres etc, in LEDCs it's about food aid/emergency relief/health/women's issues etc). But yeah, pick up as much experience as you can volunteering. It'll bode well for you in the future with job interviews and help you realise where you want to be. Also a lot of it is just desk-based, admin, research and HR which is more stable than emergency relief. Not as glamourous but just as important.

With every day pass, our country is getting into more and more trouble. The inflation, unemployment and falling value of dollar are the main concern for our Government but authorities are just sleeping, they don’t want to face the fact. Media is also involve in it, they are force to stop showing the real economic situation to the people. I start getting more concern about my future as well as my family after watching the response of our Government for the people that affected by hurricane Katrina.
According to recent studies made by World Bank, the coming crisis will be far worse than initially predicted. So if you're already preparing for the crisis (or haven't started yet) make sure you watch this video at http://www.familysurvival.tv and discover the 4 BIG issues you'll have to deal with when the crisis hits, and how to solve them fast (before the disaster strikes your town!) without spending $1,000s on overrated items and useless survival books.

A real good one no one hears much about is Moose Heart. They are funded by the Moose Lodges around the world and take in children who's parents died unexpectedly or some other reason have no where to turn to. They have the whole works from schools to play grounds and are focused on bring up children to be good productive persons whom without them would have had no chance. You can get more information on Moose Heart and Moose Haven (for elders) from your local Moose Lodge.

Well, there is a company called Lifeline that also takes in blood donations, and I think does disaster relief. The National Guard or a local church may have a mission group that does disaster relief as well.
To help families that have lost a home to a fire, or to help needy families in general you can always volunteer at your local salvation army or goodwill, they always love volunteers!

One of the premier organizations to work with disaster, actually is FEMA. There are a lot of correspondence courses you can take to at : http://training.fema.gov/IS/crslist.asp that will prepare you, and I think alot of them may be worth college credit: http://training.fema.gov/EmiWeb/IS/isfaq.asp
Also can find jobs for them at usajobs.gov
Hope this helps,
