Because of politics plain ans simple. The 14th amendment meant legal immigration. However the politicians are concerned about being reelected and are thinking of themselves first so they don't want to make enemies of the Hispanic who do vote by enforcing OUR laws on the illegal Hispanics. However they are increasing the downfall of the USA by not enforcing our laws and doing the job that they are supposed to do and that is represent the folks who voted them into office.

Tancredo, Ron Paul, and Hunter have the most conservative voting records on immigration.

Of these three, Ron Paul has the best chance of winning the Primary election.
Paul's campaign has almost 4 times as much money to spend as Tancredo.

This is his six point plan:
Physically secure our borders and coastlines. We must do whatever it takes to control entry into our country before we undertake complicated immigration reform proposals.
Enforce visa rules. Immigration officials must track visa holders and deport anyone who overstays their visa or otherwise violates U.S. law. This is especially important when we recall that a number of 9/11 terrorists had expired visas.
No amnesty. Estimates suggest that 10 to 20 million people are in our country illegally. That’s a lot of people to reward for breaking our laws.
No welfare for illegal aliens. Americans have welcomed immigrants who seek opportunity, work hard, and play by the rules. But taxpayers should not pay for illegal immigrants who use hospitals, clinics, schools, roads, and social services.
End birthright citizenship. As long as illegal immigrants know their children born here will be citizens, the incentive to enter the U.S. illegally will remain strong.
Pass true immigration reform. The current system is incoherent and unfair. But current reform proposals would allow up to 60 million more immigrants into our country, according to the Heritage Foundation. This is insanity. Legal immigrants from all countries should face the same rules and waiting periods.

The NAFTA Superhighway might be another significant threat to American borders.

The reason why the American government is allowing illegal immigration is multi-faceted, and there is much speculation as to what the EXACT reason is. For one, securing a border as large as the American one is costly and difficult, and for second, the huge number of illegal immigrants from Mexico provide a massive, easily exploitable workforce (very similar to the Irish and Chinese immigrants of the end of the 19th century). This workforce is a great asset to american Big Business, and Big Business is a great asset of the american political machine. Also, I very much disagree that we are "abusing the 14th amendment", and while I am not sure who the royal "we" that you are referring to is, I am HOPING that it is not Anglo-Saxon Protestants, because they are about as native to America as kudzu is to Georgia.

I think you need to explain a little more, I think that the basis of the Country was founded on people coming in. are you saying that too many hispanics are coming. The waves of immigrants come in all the time, when the italians came in before approx 7-9 million and it took some time for them to set roots and become something. I think the problem today is too much politics. They forced italians and even Irish/portugues(sp?) to "americanize" speak english and learn to drive and become legal contributing members of society.
We should build the fence, build it high and make the 9-12 million illegal immigrant that are here become legal. Amnesty! for them with a HUGE FINE! like 3-5k each. and then they have to get jobs and contribute($$) to social services like we all do this will help schools/immigration/welfare and other systems that rely on tax dollars. Once this is done then the boarders should be open but remember this country was founder in people coming in and living a better life

WE are not doing it. Your Government is doing it. You think we ARE the government? Think again! If WE were the Government, then:
WE would have closed the borders. In fact, WE would have never opened the borders wide open in the first place.
WE would be out of Iraq. In fact, WE would have never attacked Iraq in the first place.
WE would have health care for all American Citizens.
WE would have impeached Bush a long time ago.
If WE is the majority of Americans, there are a lot of things WE would have done that the government (BushCo and Congress has NOT done). Therefore, We the People is just another BS cliche.
