Lithium is not an anti-psychotic or "heavy" drug. In fact it is not a pharmaceutical at all. Lithium is a naturally occuring mineral salt like sodium, magnesium and potassium.
It is a mood stabilizer which means it is used to control mood swings so that people stay level. People who take lithium (I am one of them) are bipolar, also sometimes called manic depressive.
It will stop your dad from experiencing deep depressions or suicidal impulses. It will also stop mania. Bipolar people can express mania in many different ways - some ppl talk a lot and are the life and soul of the party - other times manic people are just real grumpy and irritible. Sometimes they can be impulsive and make rash decisions.
Don't worry. Lithium is a very effective treatment and many of the world's most famous and successful people have been bipolar. Winston Churchill, Sting, Patty Duke, Ben Stiller - all kinds of folk.
What is important is the relationship you have with your Dad. His medical issues sound like they are being treated appropriately.

What, are these people retarded? Oh yeah, they've probably NEVER DONE DOPE. If you've done dope, then you know you will most definitely NOT get addicted after one sniff/shot. Klonadine (clonazepam) and Seroquel are both pretty strong downers. I would skip taking these for your 'last' time. I've mixed IV heroin with Clonazepam a few times, it just made my nod stronger. I would definitely skip the Seroquel. Depending on how bad you need the lithium, i might skip it. It shouldn't really interfere, but why take chances? Just make sure you know how many blowz to do; most of the people that I have known who died from OD died their first time back to it after a while. Tolerance goes down, and some stupid people think they can handle the same amount. Problem is, this isn't generally a mistake you can learn from.

It is basically a mood stabilizer. Used mostly for bipolar disorder because it has a role in the treatment of depression and particularly of mania. Hope that helped.
