if it feels awkward for whatever reason and it's someone close to you like your dad just keep it light and breezy
"thanks pops"
"cool thing you did dad thanks"
"good thinking dad thanks"
practise in front of a mirror or in the shower (but not too loudly)
we often feel awkward with the people who mean the most to us because we assume they know what we're thinking so don't worry - we all like to hear kind words

This is actually the first I have heard of this. I find it interesting and it shows how different everyone is in the world. So now when something is going on and I am being kind to a person and they don't say "thank- you" I can have an open mind about it and not feel as if they are being mean.

You're not a freak. Sometimes it's hard to say the things we should to the people who are close to us because we figure that "they know" already. But you know what, everybody appreciates a thank you, even if they already know you feel that way. So go ahead and say it. It'll feel less funny each time! A simple thank you can go a long way and mean a lot to someone.

I find saying thank you very easy.
Besides the person feels better about you
and acknowledged.
Don't know what to say to your dad.
Maybe a quick pop in the arem with a grin?
Hand shake?

Yes it happened to me with both of my parents..... I don't know why, I guess I just didn't hear them say it a lot and I didn't learn how to thank them........ I still find it a bit weird to say thanks to my mom for things she does for me..... I also feel like I'm a freak LOL but yeah, you're not the only one......

Ok, people like to be thanked for things. Just say it a lot! You will get over it.

It comes pretty easy for me. I'm grateful any time anyone does something for me. Most of us were taught in childhood to use please and thank you. If should be natural by now. If it isn't you need to grow some self confidence.

I find i pretty easy to say. Perhaps Arkwright from "open all hours" would have some trouble per-per-pronouncing it.

You have ego/pride problems/issues. I find saying please more difficult. When I say it, I feel like a child!!!!!
