Are American English teachers in Japan either arrogant or stupid?

Why American English teachers in Japan correct students' pronunciation when they cannot call their students names in Japanese way?

If you want to teach your language, you need to show some respect to our language, too. We don't expect Americans to be a fluent speaker of Japanese (which is impossible), but you need to call our names with correct accent and pronunciation to say the least.
If you cannot pronounce our language, how can you correct our pronunciation?

Besides, the reason we are learning English is that English is an international language by which we can communicate with people all over the world. Every nation has its own accent, but we can communicate with people in Europe, Africa and Asia, etc.

American English is just one of them. Don't be too arrogant.

Sad to say but they want the students to learn the correct way to pronounce the english, They dont have to know how to speak or pronuonce things in Japanese. It is the same for all other languages, We learned to speak and pronounce things in english so we say it like it would sound to us in english instead of the right way.It takes a long time to retrain the brain to hear the sound of each letter in a new language and our brain learned it in our first language.Be patient and forgive them as they cant help anymore then others can pronounce it in english unless they are born here.

Don't want to sound mean, but as ThreeDay has pointed out, you will have to improve your English a lot. These jobs aren't as easy to get as they once were. More and more better qualified people are applying for these jobs, so the competition is much tougher. The job requires no less than a BA / BS degree. If you haven't even started college, this is over four years in the Future ! A lot can change in that time period. And don't even think of printing a fake college degree ! That is fraud, and it would get you arrested and deported. It's the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that requires the degree for a work visa, not the employer.

You just answered your own question. She is there to teach English and not Japanese. Whether she wants to conform to the Japanese pronunciation of your name, it is irrelevant to your English language learning. She isn't arrogant and you are looking too much into it. English teachers are English teachers, whether they are in China, korea, Argentina or Brazil. they are native speakers of the language and paid to teach English. Many teachers do not even speak the language of the host country nor are they required to. Not being able to say japanese names in the proper way is not disrespectful, because japanese ability is not a job requirement of speaking English.

I will also add that foreigners CAN become fluent in japanese, despite some Japanese believing japanese is so unique and difficult that its out of reach of foreigners. I'm living proof that foreigners can become fluent though not necessarily native-like.

What you're saying doesn't make any sense. They are here to teach japanese children English, not to learn japanese free of charge. They don't need to learn how to call their names correctly. They're just doing what they are supposed to do. Besides I don't think they are arrogant. They're just terrified of living in a country that's radically different from their own.

How would it be a useful class if they *didn't* correct pronunciation? That's a pretty big part of learning a language. Arrogance and stupidity have nothing to do with it.

They should make an effort to pronounce your names correctly. If you noticed no efforts on their part, then they are being insensitive and disrespectful.

It's hard to take someone seriously when they mispronounce your name without trying to correct themselves.

I don't think they are there just to pronunce your name correctly. They are there to teach you how to pronunce American words correctly
