Good question.
Examples stem from those who take a truth from scripture that may only be half true, without balancing it with the other half. For example, there are those who preach about faith and prosperity. These are truths. But, if they go on that bent to the extreme of "name it and claim it" and that God makes people of real faith wealthy and if things are bad for you it is because you don't have enough faith, then this is half the truth when we consider scripture shows that trials will happen and that some are blessed with wealth and others are not (whew, one breath).
There are others who hate sin, as scripture shows, but they go to the extreme of being cruelly judgemental toward sinners, including name calling and claiming that God hates them. This is also not balanced since scripture is clear that even though God hates sin, He loves all of us, unconditionally.
There are others, while not really Christians, use Christianity as the basis for their bigoted, racist stance in life. They are not really Christians, though, only poor imitators. They can't even logically quote any scripture to support their claims.
Extremism is the same across the boards. It takes a piece of truth or teaching and exalts it without balancing it against the rest of what is true or taught.

1. Going from door to door, telling people Jesus loved them and died for them.
2. Answering every question which in some way or another questions or logically disproves Christianity (even if the asker is being extremely polite), by saying the above and then telling the asker to shut up.
3. The Crusades, remember?
4. Didn't Bush attack Iraq because he thought God told him to?
5. Refusing to EVER question their own faith while constantly questioning others'.
6. Worst of all, discriminating against Jews, killing 6 mn of them, chucking the rest out of their coutries, forcing them onto the Palestinians and then offering their sincere apologies.
You may call Muslim extremists as the real terrorists, but they haven't killed anywhere near as many people as Christians have throughout their history.

One who is willing to go to foreign countries and dig wells, plant crops, and line-up medicine for the sick people of whatever land they're in. It takes a certain amount of courage to do such things. In fact, it takes an extreme form of courage to do that.
Now other extremists who kill innocent people and fly airliners into buildings- they're just sick. No comparison at all to Christians.

One example would be a Christian who considers himself/herself superior and works to create laws which take civil rights away from gay people.
A second example would be the two Christian brothers in Oregon who broke into a home and murdered a sleeping gay couple in the 1990's. The brothers felt it was their duty to kill the gay men since [they believed] God did not approve of them.
Christian extremists are the same as any other religious extremist. If you don't agree with them, physical or mental violence is not far behind.

Instead of taking lives for the cause of the faith, a Christian extremist would give his/her life out of love for Christ and all the brethren in Christ.

A Christian follows the 11th commandment of Christ to love one another - so a true Christian would not be violent or hurtful of others..

A Christian extremist is somebody who makes Jesus Christ their entire life, not just part of their life. Missionaries who put all their time, energy, and money into traveling the globe digging wells and bringing food & medicine to children in third-world countries are Christian extremists.

Well the clearest examples right now are the ones that bomb abortion clinics and murder the doctors that work there. There are other examples of gays being attacked and even atheists.
What they do is no different. I will say that it is much less wide spread in Christianity than Islam.
