I found this information on a web site listed in the source's section. I didn't think I could phrase it better.
The Question Asked Most Often:
How is a promise ring worn – which hand, which finger?
Again, make sure you and the person exchanging promise rings understand what the ring will symbolize. They should be given genuinely and sincerely, with all parties being clear on the promise that has been made and received.
Which finger you wear a promise ring on depends entirely on what type of pledge you are making and in some cases – the type of ring. For instance, a Claddagh ring can be worn several different ways:
Worn on the right hand with the heart facing outward – it means that the wearer’s heart is free.
Worn on the right hand with the heart turned inward – it means that the wearer’s heart is taken.
Worn on the left hand, it means that the wearer has made a promise of love and fidelity.

I would say that is entirely your choice. The rings are special to you. With the way girl where rings these days even if you do wear it on your left hand ring finger most people wouldn't think its an engagement ring unless it was clearly a diamond.
That said, my bf and I wear ours on our right hand ring fingers. IMO...this allows us to comfortably keep wearing them after we get new rings, without getting them resized

I don't think it matters. Since it's not "official", and no one else on the planet really needs to know about its significance, you should put it on whatever finger you feel is most appropriate.
It only needs to go on a specific finger if you want the rest of the world to see it as a commitment...And most (at least in the U.S.) will only understand it as a commitment if it's on your left ring finger. On any other finger, they'll simply see it as a nice piece of jewelry.

Right hand. My man gave me two such rings over our relationship. I have one on the middle finger of my right hand and one on the ring finger of my right hand. I am keeping the left hand free for the wedding band and engagement ring.

If you both have made a commitment to each other you love each other, you should get married. Their is NO finger for that kind of ring. The left hand ring finger is just for MARRIAGE!! and nothing else. You are already married in your hearts. Make it legit!

I always thought it was the same finger as the engagement ring. Each new ring becomes a deeper level of committment and replaces the former ring.

It would be up to you and what you prefer. If you plan to be engaged oneday, it may be better to wear them on your right hand, so that you can continue to wear them there after you get engaged, but it is really your preference. Best wishes!
