Scientology recognises people being at different levels. the higher you ascend, the more information is given to you. Presuming the Xenu stories are true, I'm guessing knowledge of it is only available at the fairly high levels. I have no idea if Tom Cruise has reached that level.

It's widely accepted that celebrity scientologists are on the merest outside periphery of the movement and act as PR representatives for Scientology. They either don't know what the group is all about, feign ignorance in exchange for cash or are willfully stay ignorant of it. Assuming the Xenu stuff is true, it's a piece of information reserved for the highest levels within the church itself.

Yes, he knows.

Most of them don't get that far, it costs too much. Those who do are so brainwashed that they will accept anything by that stage. Celebs like Tom get 'fast-tracked'.

Lisa MacPherson (see first answer) was a Scientologist who went mad and was found wandering in a delusional state in the street. The Scientologists picked her up from the mental home saying her religion forbade psychiatry and only they could help her. A few days later she died in their custody, naked and starved to death. The coroner recorded a verdict of death by 'neglect'.

Well, I'm sure he knows by now. I think pretty much everyone knows by now...but not because the "church" wants them to. They're not supposed to tell you about it until you've already had plenty of brainwashing, and have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars already.
(Though WHY anyone would be dumb enough to join a "church" that doesn't even tell you what it is you're supposed to believe is beyond me...)
