Having a pet bobcat is pretty intriguing to me. Where can I find more info on having a bobcat as a pet? Any suggestions, comments, or stories from people who've had a bobcat pet? Thanks!

Heather K - Actually, it is NOT illegal to own a bobcat, so long as you have a permit to own one. Plenty of people have bobcats as pets. You say "read a book, you might learn something", but if you actually did some looking up on the topic, you'd find that you're WRONG.

Check out www.bobcatsmt.com , they're a breeder in Montana where you can get all the information on keeping bobcats as pets, including training, diet, care, and so on. You can even buy healthy, legal, and properly vaccinated and examined bobcat and lynx kittens from here.

You can contact your state's authorities to obtain info and a liscence application on owning a bobcat.

There are manuals available that can give you all the info you'll need on owning a pet bobcat. A manual from the experts at Bitterroot Bobcat and Lynx can be ordered from the website above.

Also be sure to check the "pictures of our cats" page to see pictures of wonderful bobcat pets, inside the house, interacting with children and other pets, and being adorable, fuzzy balls of love.

I wouldn't suggest getting a wild animal if you're not an expert who is able to provide everything for it which is not possible at home. bobcats are no pets. Why don't you just get a Pixiebob or a Highlander? These cats become huge and the Pixiebobs are related to bobcats. actually the first pixiebob developed from a domestic cat and a bobcat.

If you get a bobcat, it would never be a PET EVER! its bad to keep an animal locked up like that , bobcats are wild and the only reason you should have one is if you rescue it or are helping it grow up to return to the wild. NEVER A PET

The only suggestion I can give you is to start thinking in a more conventional type of pet. Owning a wild feline and keeping it at home represents a great responsibility and possibly a great liability. This kind of animals are not pets and given their nature your putting yourself and everyone around you at risk.

Our local zoo has a bobcat who started off as someone's pet and became too aggressive for the owners to handle.

Doesn't sound like a good idea to me...

well...a bobcat is considered a wild animal and it can hurt you, and your family.you'd have to feed it meat all the time and it's pretty big.i don't suggest keeping a bobcat.
