For those of you that shoot Models, what do you do about their escorts??

Generally, I have no problem with escorts for safety, or even to assist the model in between sets for clothing/makeup touchups, etc..., but recently, I have had to ban "romantic" interests from shoots totally, and even require escorts to stay out of eyesight of the shoot. It just seems to be harder to get models to focus on the work, and stop socializing with there escort.

Hubby's/boyfriends have become a real nightmare too (even in casual clothing shoots), attempting to get involved in directing the shoot, and models looking to them all the time for approval. I recently cancelled 2 shoots after starting because of the interference.

Is it like this for everyone??

Wow. It sounds like its just one of those things everyone has to deal with. There was a time I thought it was good to have an extra pair of hands, especially for location shoots, since I didnt have any problems with weird-*** hubbys, or un-focused models back than. Oh well, I guess luck didnt last.

Yep, I think all of us have that problem.

I don't let any romantic interest (including husbands) anywhere near the shoot. It's an absolute ban and explained before hand. The subject can bring a friend as an escort/helper for makeup, costume changes, etc., or just personal comfort, but that's it.

After two negative experiences, that was enough for me and I made the rule.

The studio I use has a very nice area with big plasma screen TV, satellite reception, Bose stereo, the best coffee and a door that locks between that area and the set.

I only work with 3 art directors and we work well together on the set. If I was to have a problem, then, like Ace, I would banish them (or tell them to find someone else).

Yep.

Set the ground rules right away. Escorts are to be silent. No exceptions or they will be asked to wait in the reception area.

Have a high directors chair set up for them behind the camera position and slightly to one side so they can see the model, but far enough away that eye contact will be harder.

Art directors are the same way.

Dear Ryan

Firstly i hate people work they are so difficult, not like the nice friendly co operative buildings and homes i shoot.

Seriously - put the escort away from the set and put some music or the Tv or something on for them and tell them from the start how you operate.

Nice answers above, I think from the start put them straight, just like any other pro would -doctor,dentist etc

thats it, just wanted to say hi really

yep, it's definitely annoying, there're playing in your sand box which you have total control over the entire photo shoot which they (the escorts) think that they know everything about photo shoots and want to run the entire photo shoot their way.
