Is a WW3 predicted? If so how does it start and will it be the end of civilisation? And yes I am genuinely interested and don't mock religious people. I am a Catholic but find the Bible hard to interpret.

No, not world war 3, but the war of Armageddon. The second coming of Christ which will be during the 7 year tribulation which should take place after the Rapture. Read the last book of the Bible which is Revelation. It will explain the end times to you. I don't think Catholicism teaches about the Rapture, but the Rapture comes from the Greek word Rapturo or Harpazo, which means to be "Caught up". The Bible says that those who have accepted Christ will be caught up together in the clouds with the Lord. It is not determined whether this will happen before or after the tribulation, but my belief is it will be before.

Actually many have called the Iraq war World War III. According to the Revelation there will be a final battle on the plains of Armageddon. But there is no indication that this will be a World War.

This battle in itself won't be the end of civilization. But after this battle will come the Return of Christ and the true final battle between Satan and the army of heaven. Then the world as we know it will end. The Revelation tells us that there will be a "new heaven and a new earth".

And for the record I don't encourage anyone to worry about this. I personally believe that we have already entered the end times. But frankly whether the return of our Lord begins tomorrow or in another thousand years our task is the same - to be faithful to his word.

And I agree the Revelation is hard to interpret. Even among those who study it there are a variety of interpretations.

After reading all the answers above, I must say that I am surprised that most correctly answered "no". I *am* disappointed that so many seem ignorant of how many nations were *not* involved in the first 2 world wars, however.

The prophecies of Daniel, Ezekiel and Revelation are *very* difficult to interpret, and I must admit that, although very interesting to read, I make no attempt to interpret them. Knowing what's coming should have no affect on your faith, or that of any other Christian. Be aware that you, or I, might not live to see tomorrow. We must *always* be "ready to meet our maker".

It may help to get a better version of the bible - although it will not help you to interpret prophetic scripture, it *may* help you to recognize when someone is falsely interpreting scripture. I prefer the New Jerusalem Bible, Regular Edition - see why here http://www.jimpettis.com/bibles/njb.htm . It has an imprimatur, which signifies that it is "worthy" for Roman Catholics.

WWI was not predicted in the bible, let alone WWIII, what was predicted was the end of the world in revelations.

However (rev 1:1, 3) "Things which must shortly come to pass"

John believed that the things that he wrote about would happen soon, within his own lifetime. After nearly 2000 years, believers still believe that "the time is at hand" and that the events described in Revelation will "shortly come to pass."

Rev 7:1 unfortunatley John said "I saw four angels standing on the four corners of the earth."
Thus he saw the earth as flat and square-shaped, or at least quadrilateral in shape. Rev 7:4 "An hundred and forty and four thousand"144,000 Jews will be going to heaven; everyone else is going to hell.

rev 8:10-11) "And the name of the star is called Wormwood."
Some believers say that the 1986 nuclear disaster at Chernobyl was the fulfillment of the third trumpet in 8:10-11.

rev 9:4-6 8:10-11) "They should not kill them [those without marks on their foreheads], but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion."
The angels are instructed not to "hurt the grass [How could they? All the grass was killed in 8:7] ... but only those men which have not the seal of God on their foreheads." God tells his angels not to kill them, but rather torment them with scorpions for five months. Those tormented will want to die, but God won't let them.

Who or What Is the Beast?

The answer to this nearly 2000-year-old question depends on how you choose to interpret the Book of Revelation (a.k.a. the Apocalypse), the last book of the New Testament.

At the end of the paragraph about this third beast, the author challenges the reader with an intriguing puzzle: "This calls for wisdom: let anyone with understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a person. Its number is six hundred sixty-six." (13:18).

In order to understand this text, one must know that ancient Hebrew (like Greek and other ancient languages) did not have a separate set of characters to indicate numbers, but simply used the letters of its alphabet to represent numbers. This fact provides the basis for the ancient practice of "gematria," in which numerical equivalents of words and names are calculated (still a popular game today!).

The basic idea is that every word has a number associated with it, obtained by adding up the numerical equivalent of each letter in the word.
This is mostly commonly done with names; thus every person has a number, the numerical value of his or her name.
There are several different ways of assigning numbers to the twenty-two letters of the Hebrew alphabet, but the system most commonly used is this:
alef = 1; bet = 2; gimel = 3; dalet = 4; hey = 5; waw = 6; zayin = 7; chet = 8; tet = 9; yod = 10; kaf = 20; lamed = 30; mem = 40; nun = 50; samek = 60; ayin = 70; pey = 80; tsadeh = 90; qof = 100; resh = 200; shin = 300; taw = 400.
For example, my name "David" has a value of 14 in Hebrew (since it is written dalet-waw-dalet, which is 4+6+4); see Matthew 1:17.
The same game can be played in any language by assigning numerical values to each letter of the alphabet: for example, a = 1, b = 2, c = 3, etc.
However, the results you want to get may determine which numerical system you choose; for example, you can get HITLER = 666 if you choose a system in which a=100, b=101, c=102, etc.

So, Who Is the Person Whose Number Is 666?

Throughout history, attempts have been made to identify 666 with many famous people (usually one's enemies)!

Since the Reformation (and still today!), some Protestants have tried to connect 666 with the Pope, either with the "Roman Pontiff" in general or with a specific Pope in particular. On the other hand, some Catholics used to see a link between the apocalyptic beast and Martin Luther.
Some Democrats have tried to associate the beast with Ronald Reagan or George W. Bush, while some Republicans might argue it was John F. Kennedy or Bill Clinton

Most biblical historians agree, however, that the Book of Revelation is simply referring to the Roman Emperor NERO, the most "beastly" ruler of the first Christian Century:

The Hebrew equivalent of "Emperor Nero" could be written NRWN QSR (nun-resh-waw-nun qof-samek-resh in Hebrew spelling); thus, the first word is 50+200+6+50, the second word is 100+60+200, and the total is no surprise!

While most ancient Greek manuscripts of the New Testament have the number "six hundred sixty-six" in Rev 13:18, some ancient manuscripts contain the alternate reading "six hundred sixteen" (616), which might well be the older or original reading of this text.

Its a story, a mad man's rambling phrophecy that got included in the official canon. If you believe this, then I hope you got a great deal from the tooth fairy, because the end of the world is neigh...

From what I understand (and I am Catholic as well) is that "...no man knows the hour..."
I don't believe WW III is a guarantee of the end. This bothered me whan I was younger too but I decided to live each day as if IT were the last - or at least TRY to. It's an age old question that has been answered wrong thus far.

There are two wars. The first one is a SPIRITUAL war between God and Satan. God defeats the armies of Russia and China supernaturally. The second war is the battle called Armageddon. This one takes place after the rapture and at the end of the tribulation. It will be the greatest bloodbath in the history of civilization. It will be fought in Israel on the plains of Megiddo.

catholic- me too. i know somewhere in the bible, a prophet predicted that there will be 3 world wars. He is right- the next WW is gonna be nuclear. after the last war, there will be the revelations. but if u look at how it starts, it say that it will come about when people start claiming to be the anti-chirst- (just recently, there is an anti christ in florida, USA) and when wars start to break out, and disease and all that is bad, will break out. so probably soon. dont be sad. it was unpreventable. its not bushs fault either, if anyhting, he is trying to stop more wars from happening other than the one we are in. keep ur chin up :-)

No, at least not like you're probably thinking.
If you mean in the same fashion as the 1st 2 World Wars, where every nation takes a side to fight against another group of ppl, then the answer is no.

Armageddon is a war between Jehovah's holy army of angels (led by the glorified Jesus Christ aka Michael the Archangel) and the governments of the world. It's obviously an unfair fight, but in actuality the heavenly army will be defending God's people, who are in danger from oppositon from the human governments.

BIBLE BOOKS OF 39 IS ENOUGH TO STUDY TO GRASP UNDERSTANDING

The bible is hard to understand because it was written as the people lived it.

The population began with people needing to establish law and order, but the flood is proof that they did not do so and violence filled the earth, what was God to do but end the violence.
Noah son #10 in the genealogy of Jesus came through the flood in the year 1656. Noah had 350 years life after the flood Gen.9:28,29;
Shem had 502 years life after the flood Gen.11:10;
We must not forget that man was to live forever but Satan, Adam and Eve caused death to the offsprings of Adam, all are LOST until SAVED by Christ Jesus 1Cor.15:22-28,51-53; Heb.2:9,14,16; Rev.20:6; John 3:16; 17:3;

Then 427 years after the flood, Sodom and Gomorrah is proof that law and order needed to be established, but there was not even 10 people of that population that could be found.
Lot and his 2 daughters were spared.
Abraham at age 75 was surrounded by land pirates, Abraham is son #20 in the genealogy of Jesus Matt.1:1-17;
God gave him the Promised Land covenant. At 430 years Moses age 80, Exo.7:7; 12:40,41; Gal.3:16-18; will have 603,550 Promised Land heirs to Exit Egypt 857 years after the flood, and in 40 years at 897 years after the flood, they will have the law of the land and the laws of God and be a law enforcement people. They enter the land pirates land that is given them. We are all aware what law enforcement people do.

Joshua 5:6,10,14; Ends the 40 years 14th day in New Year and there will be Judges to enforce the law and put forth every effort to keep the peace, but Judges 11:26; 300 years and 1198 years after the flood Judge Jair has died and there is trouble.
This continues until king David son #34 in the genealogy of Jesus at 1333 for 40 years to 1373 years adter the flood and 1077 BCE to !037 BCE does establish peace so that his son Solomon can built the temple and reign in peace 1Ki.6:1; 480 years after Moses dies he begans the temple when he has been king 4 years, at 1377 years after the flood, he dies at age 40, in 36 years and 1413 years after the flood. 997 BCE.
There will be 18 Judah kings that last 391 years to 1804 years after the flood,
the Promised Land is desolate and all are captive to Babylon world Empire #3, 606 BCE
At year 2513 with Moses at the Exodus of Egypt, begans the O.T. 1110 years, 39 books, many write [ near 40 ], done 443 BCE.
The O.T. books has its place in the temple. Built again in the time of Ezra and Nehemiah 443 BCE. Temple redone by Herod in the 46 years for the first coming of Jesus to be in Rome world Empire #6.
Jesus ascends to heaven in year 33 CE, he is age 35 years old.
N.T. 50 to 100 years done.
The second coming of Jesus to make all things new is the promise, we identify the present year as 2007 CE and some say Christian and some say common era.
The KJV Bible published to the world 1611 CE did not prevent WW1 or WW2
and most on earth did not know of the most major was Rev.12:7-12; and how much prophecy this fulfilled. So it may be the same with Armageddon,
a heaven war that put Satan in the pit. Rev.20:1-6;
