It seems like Christianity has survived over the years mainly due to a strong tradition(my mothers mother was christian, my mother is christian, and then passed on to me).

esther, You state your beliefs as factual statements. well, I don't "believe" you....I'd put you in the minority, the "actual truth" category

Sleek, thank you...i think the only way you can have a relationship with a god/gods or goddesses is if you believe with an open mind, having flexibility with your beliefs. Stating what you believe to be true as factual statements is tunnel vision. They forget that beliefs are not facts.

myfrenz, I have read the bible. I have my facts right. Most christians i know havn't even read the bible..but then you say "then there not christians!"...well maybe thats your opinion...many support the church and attend on sunday. It is tradition for many. There is no confusion here. and as i stated above, I think christians are best off somewhere in the middle...believing

My family started as Atheist in Soviet controlled Bulgaria. My Father became fundamentalist Christian when we came to America. I became a Witch as an early teen. Although familiar with the gospels I didn't understand what Jesus was teaching. In a fit of depression after loosing my first Child I tried to kill myself and had an experience like Saul's on the road to Damascus.
I have no doubt about what Jesus taught, I have no doubt about God. I know the spiritual transcends this reality so science isn't my enemy like superficial "Bible is truth" Christians. The word of God is inscribed on my heart and my faith is like a ball bearing. I do not judge people I love them and I know anyone that loves as I do or is loved as I am is one with God even if they don't know a thing about the Christian Religion.
I've learned many things about Christ from over a dozen religions and from dozens of poets and philosophers.
God is love.

You know? This reminds me of the slave condition. I mean, unless someone rebelled, most of them used to be disgustingly loyal and obedient. It is precisely women, despite of being so run down by Christianity are the ones that perpetuate this tradition or whatever you might want to name it. Whenever you go into a church, who do you see? Woimen generally old women. Who bother their husband about that, you know going to church and all that? Wives and who were the most effective allies of popes when trying to convert heathen king? Queens and consorts. Please, don't misunderstand me, I've got nothing against women, if you knew me well you'd know that already but facts must be acknowledged.
Yes, I know, many will say that there still are priests and ministers and the odd nun. What I'm taking about here is among the lay people, women seem to be the most interested in this, isn't this funny? It's like something they've grown with or rather that has been imposed on them. They seem to have this ideal of the perfect family, just to show it to everybody else, of course. It's been proved statistically that women are more concerned about keeping up appearances, so maybe this is somehow related. What better structure than Christianity with all it's outside matters values to put this to test?

i believe it is truth forsome..... it says in the BIBLE, the path to heaven is very narrow, and only few ever find it... i seriously think some ppl get so caught up in the "traditions" they really lose sight of the whole concept...JESUS was against religion, so we should be also....JESUS doesnt want our "religion",all he wants our heart and our love!! how great is that?!?! study the bible daily.. get your facts from the BIBLE and not just what you hear from someone..and get excited about the wonderful things the LORD has done and will continue to do!!! how can anyone not get excited about that?!?! if ppl would just do that, i dont hink there would be all this confusion....
edit- dude, what are you talking about?!?! i neversaid someone wasnt a christian, pertaining to this question....im not real sure what your so angry about. you asked a question... i answered... istn this what this whole thing is about? ive yet to see where you could have gotten offended at my response..... please explain.... i never even hinted at the fact that someone wasnt a christian becaue they didnt read the BIBLE... you asked if i thought christianity was tradition, belief, or truth for some... i think its truth! i hope all christians think its truth! i think you thought i was implying that you could only learn about JESUS from the BIBLE.....well, i know that isnt the only way... thats what ministry is for.... all i was sayin is, if ppl( not YOU in particular)read the BIBLE(which is the true word of GOD)and trust the LORD, then ya got it covered... there are many false teachings out there, that sounda a lot like truth, but is not....the BIBLE is truth... i apologize if you thought i was implying you werent a christian, but it was actually the furthest thing from what i was saying.

It is true that many believe because of the traditions of men, but we are to look into our own hearts and seek what is the true motivation for our belief.
John 1:9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

I love the way you add details to address each answer. That is painstaking and cool.
I would have to say that that is about right. Few people really have a true relationship with the One we cannot readily see.

Christianity "survives" because it is the one and only truth. There is no other God than the God of the bible, and no other savior than His son.
