The economic impact is great if the demographic balance is off. If you have too many unskilled workers you are not able to keep up with the technological demands of progress. Its very important to balance out the demographics of any population to ensure proper growth and support infrastructure are in place.

Which demographic crisis is that? The drop in fertility 40 years ago, resulting in an 'aging population?'
Legal immigration nicely compensates for what would otherwise be a declining population.
Illegal immigration is causing a crisis of it's own.

The only way to fix this immigration problem is by having a “comprehensive immigration reform” But there has been a continued support of worksite raids which have had terrible repercussions, including the separation of children from their parents, increased racial profiling and intimidation, and a growing sense of fear throughout the nation’s immigrant communities. A better starting point for repairs to our immigration system would include adjusting the status of undocumented immigrants, supporting family reunification, and enforcing labor laws that protect immigrant and non-immigrants alike.

While it looks good to the rich and the gnp, it negatively affects the poor and working class and reduces the middle class. Most new Americans aren't children born to American parents. Most are Mexicans and others from South of the Border, half of which are illegal and refuse to adapt. I'm against it.
