I host a card game every two weeks and I always prepare some sort of snack. The game has been going for about 1.5 years and I have repeated recipes only a couple of times. Now, I am running out of ideas. Here are a few restrictions for the suggestions:

- No curry. It makes one of the regular players sick

- I usually include some sort of meat and vegetable in the snack although this restriction is negotiable if you have a really good suggestion.

- The snack needs to be consumable without utensils and shouldn't get the players' hands messy (it's a card game!)

- The preparation of the snack must involve applying heat to food (i.e., genuine cooking).

- The cost must be modest. I defray some but not all of the costs of these snacks.

As I indicated earlier, I will prepare the winning snack for my card game for real and report on how it went.

Good luck and may the best snack win.

How about stuff on skewers? Like tandoori chicken. I found a site that lists a bunch of finger foods and there also homemade meat and cheese "pockets" that don't seem too greasy, as well. Could you put messier things on toothpicks and have that work?

Are dips ok? You could make hot cheese dip (like queso) to dip pretzels, bread sticks or raw veggies in.

The shells that people use to make mini quiches would be useful to hold all kinds of meat, cheese, vegetable combos.

No utensils at all? How about toothpicks? This is my husband's Swedish meatball recipe

John’s Swedish Meatball Recipe

Do this in a crockpot.

2 cans of cream of mushroom soup
2 pkgs. regular cream cheese (not light or fat-free)
16 oz. sour cream (not light or fat-free)
1 and a half soup cans of milk
1 4 oz. can chopped green chiles
Let cook for 4 hours on low, whisk occasionally to dissolve cream cheese
Add 1 pkg. (about 16 oz.) frozen meatballs
Cook for another 3-4 hours or so on high

I'd say a nacho platter, but that can be greasy, but I have a good recipe for that. How about pigs in a blanket? Easy to make and easy to pop in the mouth. Or even a baked spinach/artichoke dip in a bread bowl? Or little smokies in BBQ sauce. Same thing...toothpicks. They make little mini-quiches now, they're in the frozen section. The crusts aren't greasy. Egg rolls, but bake them instead of frying them.

Uh, just a few ideas. Anything baked won't be as greasy as take-out or fried.

Have fun! I haven't played poker in a while!

As an avid poker player myself, the one dish I get my fellow players requesting is a simple chip and dip recipe. Using a 9" round (or square) microwaveable dish. I laydown 2 12 oz packs of cream cheese, the a 14 oz can of Hormel or Stagg meat chili, then topped with shredded cheddar. I make these up a head of time, and then just microwave them till cheese melts on top (can be done in regular oven as well) once cheese is melted, I top with sliced black olives (optional) and a bowl of tortilla chips. IT goes quick, so I usually make more than one. I have also, for larger groups made this in individual 5" rarebits, so each player had one in front of them on a plate, along with the chips. This is what they usually request for snacks when it's my time to host. Hope this helps...

Wow those are some guidelines... I recently stumbled upon this new video cooking site and it had a tuna recipe. You can serve the tuna on toasted bread or crackers, there are also some other recipes to the left colum. The best thing is it's a video so you can watch how to make it!

Hope this site has a winning recipe for you!
