Yes, you already know less than a week is too short for them to be buddies..It's been 3 months for mine..and they still do the occasional smack back and forth *which makes me laugh*.. but yes they clean each other and play..They love to run around chasing each other at night..Roxy is a year and the recently adopted one, Chloe is a year and a half..so we adopted an older cat also..They will get better..I promise..make sure you pay attention to both of them and in no time they'll clean each other, play, and lay together...mine won't do that yet, but they get really close sometimes. Good Luck!

I just introduced two female cats. When I adopted out new baby from the shelter the coordinator was full of warnings, telling me that introducing two female cats would be disastrous. I was convinced that everything would be fine. My older female cat is very easygoing and has been introduced to all sorts of cats over the years (I got her when I was still in university so I've done quite a bit of moving around and living with tons of different roomates since then) The new female kitten was very shy and it was very difficult to tell what kind of personality she had. The first couple of weeks were prety tough. We started out by keeping the new female isolated into a differnt room and putting each cats food bowls right beside the door. There was some hissing and spitting but eventually it stopped. After a few days we let the little one explore the house and big one into the isolated room for a few minutes at a time. Finally, we let them out together under supervision. The process took a few weeks, but eventually the little battles stopped. Now they're inseparable. It still gives me a little warm rush when I see them hanging out together on the couch.
Every cat has it's own unique personality... Even cats that are friends have their little battles (For us, big cat likes to play when litte cat is sleeping so sometimes there are little hissing battles but there always done pretty quick)
I think that if everything is handled properly and if the situationis monitored then there shouldn't be a problem.
The worst case scenario would be if there is a huge power struggle and in that case the best result would be wary indifference on both sides for your cats. I would hazard to say that if your cats are having minimal problems and it's only been a week, then your outcome will be really good.
Have fun with your new cat!

If there isn't any ferocious fighting, and just a little hissing and swatting, then it sounds as if you have the makings of a friendship. You can't expect them to like each other right away...less than a week is very little time after all. They will be just fine. I have introduced many female cats to female cats and they have been just fine. All my female cats (I have 5) groom each other regularly.
Good luck!

I had 3 female cats for many years (the last one just died on Saturday). They were never really buddies, but they co-existed quite peacefully after a few weeks of hissing and occasional swatting.
Give them time and they should eventually get along just fine!

I have 2 female cats. They get along pretty well.
My parents had 9 female cats, all indoors, and for the most part they got along well or at least tolerated each other.
Ocassional hissing or pawing at each other seems to be normal behavior. My mother says they act like children. They get along but they have their spats too. Over time, I'm sure they will get along.
Yesterday, they were sleeping side by side on the bed. It was so cute.

This sounds perfectly normal. We have two girl kitties that are the best of buddies now. It took a couple months but they're great now. The new kitty will be freaked out for a little while but it sounds like you're off to a great start. :-)
It will work out especially well if they're young (under 2 or 3 yrs). Good luck!

There is absolutely no reason they won't be friends. There should be no problem. The new cat is of course defencive because she is in a new and unfamilure place where she is the new kid. Cats are territorial too. It's something the two cats have to work out and deal with. You can't help - just love them both.

they are placing up a pecking order. Puddin is the older cat and he or she's protecting her territroy. Hissing and swatting is regularly occurring. this is over in a pair of weeks. enable them to be except there is blood in contact, then separate them.
