Muhammad was alone in a cave when the angel first came to him. He was afraid and initially thought he was a poet or possessed if I remember correctly. This can make people wonder if he really was possessed. I think you are able to understand why someone could believe that.
I would really like to hear some honest, faith-filled opinions, not Koran quotes, as to why you believe. Why do you believe Muhammad is the last prophet? Why do you believe as you do?
I am really trying to understand Islam. I'm not trying to insult, just inquire, but we rarely get heartfelt answers. I know many Muslims are very defensive right now and some have a right to be. I know everyone can just say, "It's faith!" and that's good. I am just hoping to hear some personal testimonies.
Thank you very much!

I appreciate the answers so far, but I was looking for something more than logic and we believe the Quran is true. Judi came the closest so far in my opinion.
I can say as a Christian that I have felt the presence of Our Lord. Some people will say I'm crazy, but I know I'm not. I have witnessed the power of prayer, I have been "guided" by the Holy Spirit. I am close to crying just remembering the wonderful experiences I've had. These are the kinds of things I have never heard from Muslims. This is what I mean by faith-filled and heartfelt! Please!
djmantx - I agree with you! That's why I wanted Muslims to explain why they believe, how they are certain, how they feel. I'm trying to understand their faith. Your sister in Christ!

100% certain.
proof and the living proof is and always will be the Quraan. beacause he was asked to read [though he was illiterate] and honestly said that he couldn't . Jibreel [as pronounced in Arabic] urged him to do so by reading the words of Allah.
so the first words said by the prophet were the words of the Quraan / surat Iqraa`\
this is a message to all men kind'whatever reigion colour or faith' to educate themselves and read [ not neccessarily thw Quraan] but education in general.
it is so logic that it makes you certain that it is real, there is no magic in it no make beliefe.
i hope you got the point.
thank you!
additional details:
i got what you meant, there is such a thing when one cries in prayaer as for how strong faith becaome to him/her;
In Islam, It is called 'khu-shua' خشوع supplication and it is the highest level of prayer, one can feel the presence of Allah= the Lord
it is the genuine feeling when you truly believe in Allah- his angles -his three books[Torah- the Bible- and The Quran] his prophets[moses- eesa'jesus '- and Mohammed] and judgement day those that we are asked to believe in
once you achieve this level of faith you'll become 100% certain of everything written in the Quraan
another type of faith is called: Al - Ihsaan: الأحسان and it is if you think that you cannot see'feel' Allah, he sees you...
then there is meditation if nature: you know that Allah created all that...
i know you didn't ask for how do pray but these are the factors that help Muslims, and i think mankind believe that there is a God, and therefore; Prophet Muhammed and Jibreel [the messanger of Allah to the Prophets]
salam...

There are many verses which says that the revelation used to be by way of Gabriel and the prophet did noticed him . One Sura certainly states that the prophet noticed him Read sura fifty three , it is virtually ALL approximately Gabriel while he met the prophet . 7 While he used to be within the maximum aspect of the horizon: eight Then he approached and got here nearer, nine And used to be at a distance of however 2 bow-lengths or (even) closer; 10 So did ((Allah)) carry the thought to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (intended) to carry. eleven The (Prophet's) (brain and) center on no account falsified that which he noticed. 12 Will ye then dispute with him involving what he noticed? thirteen For certainly he noticed him at a moment descent, 14 Near the Lote-tree past which none might go: 15 Near it's the Garden of Abode. Which the True Spirit hath introduced down 26 :193

I'm Sure of that.
First of all believe that Muhhamad is the Messenger and the Prohet of islam for many reasons...I mean logical reasons...and I believe that many prophets and some ppl like Mary were visited by Angel Gabriel, so that is why I'm sure "that Muhammad was actually visited by ".
Another thing ... Angel Gabriel was seen by many companions of Prophet Muhhamad...He appeared to them like a human, but like a "Supernatural Human" and that is why they believed he is not a human.

If it WAS Gabriel, then
1) why does the Quran dispute previous Scriptures? and
2) why are so many Quran passages identical to many known false Gnostic texts?
Isn't it just as likely that mohammed was visited by the Father of Lies?

No doubt he was visited by the Arch Angel of Revelation who is called Ruhool Qudoos (Holy Spirit).
He then recited that which was told to him just as Moses Prophesized.

Muhammad himself was not sure. The Gabriel eh spoke with disagreed with the word of God and the Gabriel recorded in the word of God. God warned us in his word to test a spirit.
Deut.13: 1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
2 And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
3 Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
A prophet of God must be in agreement with the words of the prophets and the known word of God.
1John 2: 22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.
23 Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: [but] he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.
24 Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.
1John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.
7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.
10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.
12 No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us.
13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit.
14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.
15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.
Anyone who claims to be a prophet of God must agree Jesus is the Christ the Son of God who is our savior.
2 John 1:7 For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist
Gal. 1: 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
If an angel or a man preach a different gospel he is not of God.
