is it okay? because i did a project for school regarding energy drinks and i was making my 5 participants take their own notes aside from mine. is it appropriate? let me know. thanks so much!

It depends on what you are researching in your study. If you think that it's important for your participants to take their own notes in order for the hypothesis to be tested, then ask them to take their own notes.
If I were personally conducting a study of this type, I would probably give the participants paper and pencils so they could take notes if they wish, but not require it.
I'm not sure what the purpose of your study was, but you might want to read up on "human subjects research".
