It's hard to believe some of these answers. Scientists with an agenda? Oh, like religion has none? Has anyone even cracked open a book on astronomy? How can people accept that a cell phone works yet think scientists are out to fool us? I sure learn a lot here.

Pilgrim, scientists have been trying to disprove the constancy of the speed of light for over 80 years. They end up instead proving it with ever more refined experiments. How would you explain the behavior of light observed in orbiting binary stars 1000s of light years away? If all else fails, I guess we can resort to the "God is fooling us" argument.

I've heard that God set the light already in motion from distant galaxies.

This being where the whole universe is 6,000 years old.

It's all about relativity init. The stars are like really really old cos they are like way way way over there, whereas the Earth is like really close man, like only 5 feet 3 inches away. If the stars were any younger we would not know about them because the light from them would not have arrived yet. So clearly when Father Christmas created the Universe he had to do a certain amount of forward planning like making the stars first so that they would be visible from Earth by the time Adam and Eve were ready to come out of the oven.

Here is the question I need to ask. How do you know that the stars are billions of years old? Did you see them from billions of years past? Of course not you were told that they were by some scientist (who has belifes of his own and his own agenda) and you belived him. Now can scientist prove that they are billions of years old? No they cannot. Most of this is based off of theoretical concepts. Light is moving so fast that we cannot possible know it real speed. We could be (and probably are far off the acual speed).

For example scientists have said that it takes millions of years to form coal and oil but recently it has been proven to be made in as little as 1000 years. We can make diamonds in three days in the lab (acual diamonds) so who is to say that that could not happen in the world? No one can.

And radiocarbon dating. I must admit I do not know alot about it. But how can anyone know how much c-14 (or what ever they use to date it ) was in the original sample? Plus no living person has accually seen one full half-life of carbon 14. So how do we know it is reliable? We just assume that science is all knowing.

Sorry to burst their bubbles but the speed of light is a constant in a vacuum. As for the guy that said it only travels a c when there is a grav field present, isnt there a grav field everywhere in space? There are billions of stars pulling on the Earth that we cannot even see so how can there exist a place without any gravity. The field may not be strong but it still exists regardless. Try again man.

First of all...I DO believe that the earth is about 6000 years old and I also believe that the stars are about 6000 years old....

Lets just say that I am peeling potatoes and you come into my kitchen. You notice that every minute I reach into my bag and pull out a potato and peel it and put it into my pot. The second hand reaches 12 and again I reach into my bag, pull out a potato, peel it, and place it into my pot. You also notice that there are 60 potatoes in my pot. From this you conclude that I have been peeling potatoes for 60 minutes. Good assumption based on just what you know... however, what if I told you that when I started peeling, I wasn't very good and it took me 2 minutes to peel one potato, or that someone came in and emptied the pot 4 times before you got there, or that when I started my hands weren't sore and I could peel a potato every 30 seconds? Then your conclusion is just plan wrong....

It says in the Bible that God stretched out the Heavens...so what would that do to the light that comes from those stars that He placed in the Heavens about 6000 years ago?

Dear Loose,

According to the Bible, the earth is 13,019 years old. As for the stars being billions of years old, that simply is not true.

When God created the universe, He made it fully functional and operating....it didn't nned to "mature." If you read the Book of Genesis in the Bible, God created Adam and Eve fully mature adults. They did not have to learn to speak or walk or eat....They were fully mature adults. The first day pf Adam's existence, he named all the animals ....and remembered their names. This is evidence of the great intelligence that God gave to Adam.

Incidently, after Adam and Eve had sinned against God, they did not need to read a book on how to make clothes. They made (sewed fig leaves together) clothing to cover themselves.

"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

That correctly states my view. I believe the universe is roughly 6,000 years old, and that the stars are also about 6,000 years old.

Light isn't impeded when it travels through the empty vacuum of space. Starlight reaches earth moments after it leaves the stars.

Light only travels "at the speed of light" when it is in the presence of a gravitational field. The greater the gravitational field, the slower light travels.

It is NOT the earth that is 6,000/8,000 years old, but MAN,
The earth has been around for billions of years. We have the proof of erosion and the bones of dinosaurs, who had come and gone BEFORE man.
Man's history on the earth can be deduced from the ages of the Patriarchs [ Methuselah etc.] Genesis ch. 5 and the ongoing geneology of Jesus...Matthew ch. 1 and Luke ch.3

Present Suggestion; Reread Genesis 1.
God defines night and day differently than x hours. Hypothetically, the week of creation (especially with days 1,2,3, and possibly Day 4 when sun, moon, and star were 'created') may have been greatly more than 168 hours.
