I'll even turn down the radio if I'm trying to make a left turn. Personally, I find that I concentrate better if the music is down or off. If I'm talking on the phone, (even with bluetooth), I'll say hold on, so I can concentrate on what I'm doing. If there are decearnable words for me to concentrate on, I will concentrate on them as opposed to the road or street names/numbers.
No matter how benign you may think the radio is, it can be distracting!

Yes, I always do! My wife says it's a 'man' thing as men can only focus on one thing at a time, unlike women. She may be right (thought I could never admit it to her) but I just concentrate better without the background noise of the radio. My wife would ask a further question "Why is it that men never want to ask for directions when they are lost?"

Phew! I thought I was the only one who did that :)
Whenever I need to concentrate hard I have to turn down the distractions a little.
I think it just makes it easier to think of there is less "noise" going on, though it does seem a little strange.

Coz you won't be able to concentrate on the address or location of the place that you are looking for.

Coz you wanna concentrate on what you are doing. Music distracts you when you're trying to think or look for something.

Concentration is easier with less distractions... in this case the radio is a distraction.

So I can start screaming the name of the person I'm looking for, out the car window. Then when they come running out extremely embarrassed, I can hear them in case I already passed their house or place of business.

it just goes to show you its impossible to whistle and walk at the same time
just as cell phone screw up your thinking loud noises do the same, so bright people who want to know where they are going turn the radio down

It's because you can't concentrate with that racket going on. Mind you, it's OK when you're bombing down the motorway.
