This is simply proof that self-confidence and self-esteem are not connected to your looks. You need to like yourself for who you are, not what you look like in order to achieve that.

Just try to show more self confidence. This goes a long way. Like you say the low self esteem needs to go so take a few chances and your braveness will be contagious and grow. The starting to do anything is the hard part. So just go take a few chances and you will see that there was nothing to be afraid of.

First, I should yell at you for cutting off the great hair.
But I won't. Yet. :)
The confidence doesn't come from the outside, it's how you feel on the inside. Don't worry about finding someone, just because that's what you think should happen.
It will happen when you least expect it. Looking for a new book, getting dinner, even walking down the street. That's when the best relationships start. Just by chance.
Good luck hon

My son went through a period of low self esteem. My psych major hubby had him look in a mirror twice a day and look himself in the eye while saying:
I am good-looking.
People like me for who I am.
I am a good person.
I have many friends.
You can make up similar lines to fit your needs, but it works because you are basically telling your brain how to make your body feel! The power of the spoken word is amazing.
My son is now a very happy, socially active 12 year old.
I wish you well!

Reading material to consider:
How to Raise Your Self-Esteem, Nathaniel Brandon
The Aladdin Factor, Jack Canfield & Mark Victor Hansen
The Magic of Thinking Big, David J. Schwartz
Make a list of a few positive affirmations and speak them aloud to yourself in the mirror each morning and night.

Hair means nothing to a friend, if you have a good heart and can be trusted to back up your buds, then all you need is to be a man, long hair is dead tattoos are over piercing have nothing to do with real life its just following the dorks,
just grow up and have a good life.

You might just feel insecure because you were so used to having long hair that you feel out of place without it. That'll wear off after a bit. Hang in there.

find something about yourself that you like, ask your friends what it as about you that they like and tell them to be honest, you need their help with this. take what you get from yourself as well as them and start from there.
I know that having low self esteem can be paralyzing to a person as i too suffer from it myself and it's taken counseling to help me bring it up and I'm glad too say that it works.
good luck, and see if there are any self help groups in your area that focus on behavioral health, as you can sometimes find them for free. What the hell, it cant hurt. and whats an hour or two out of the week if it makes you feel better about yourself the rest of your life

it's just a haircut
it's not going to solve all your problems.
you're still you and you have to be happy with yourself before you can make someone else happy.
find an interest, join a club or something where you can socialize with others. it should make you feel more confident to speak, if you are engaged in an activity that you actually enjoy.
I hope this helps
take care :)
