I am going to be flying out to San Fran in a couple weeks to pick up my sister and fly to AZ the same day. Which do you think would be the better option?
Option 1: Fly into San Fran at 1am, and stay in the airport until the plane leaves the next day at 1pm...
Option 2: Fly into San Fran that morning at 11:07am, and stick around until my flight at 12:51pm...
Do you think that 1 1/2 hours in between flights is enough to meet up with my sister, check in, go through security and board the plane? And if the plane is early, or mine is delayed?
Any suggestions?

I agree that option 2 should be good enough if you are traveling on the same airline and won't be changing terminals and your sister is able to come through security by herself. If you need to change terminals you should give yourself more time and if your sister isn't able to do things by herself then you also need more time.

US domestic flight, option 2 is good. You don't need to go through security again. Just go over to the gate. If you need to meet your sister and help her check-in, then, you need about 2 hours minimum.

If you're fly internationally to arrive in SFO, option 2 will not work. You don't have enough time. You need to give yourself at least three hours to go through immigration, custom, and baggages.

Nothing you can do about delays. Just hope for the best.

If your sister is meeting you at the airport then option 2 would be the best. If she is flying to AZ with you then she can meet you at the gate. If you have to physically go get her and help her tie up loose ends then option 1 would be better.
