The Biblical prophecies that have been fulfilled in just the past 60 years point to these being the last days.

Another verse to look at that has profound implications for today is 2 Peter 3:3-6..."Most importantly, I want to remind you that in the last days scoffers will come, mocking the truth and following their own desires. They will say, "What happened to the promise that Jesus is coming again? From before the times of our ancestors, everything has remained the same since the world was first created." They deliberately forget that God made the heavens by the word of His command, and He brought the earth out from the water and surrounded it with water. Then He used the water to destroy the ancient world with a mighty flood."

People have always thought that the times in which they live are the end times because they think that everything is going to heck in a handbasket, the youth show no respect, and everybody is more criminal and mean to each other than ever before.

It's kind of like how people say "look around at the world" and see all the "wars and rumors of wars" and the "earthquakes and tidal waves" - it all seems like it's happening so much! Yet, if one actually researches historical events, one will see that these things have always happened. Human civilizations have always warred with each other and rumors were always rampant about wars. Natural disasters have always happened - in fact, it's been well over 100 years since the really big ones - like Krakatoa.

I mean, what do you think people thought during the "Little Ice Age"?

It's nearsightedness that makes people think the present times are more important than the past times, more violent, etc. We can't envision how times will be different 100 years from now, and we hesitate to minimize our times as really no different than 10 years ago 50 years ago or 100 years ago -- or 1000 years ago.

The technology is different. The people, the passions, the kindness the evil, etc. are all the same.

Read the biography of Mary Shelley. The world was going through a naturally unusual phase (b/c of the Krackatoa eruption) and scientists were discovering nerve connections. She had a lot of inspiaration for 'Frakenstein'.
The 4 Gospels of the NT all have Jesus saying something along the lines of 'you shall not see the coming of the second generation til all these things pass'. There, he's refering to end times events. I'll get the exact verse in a minute... (OK-Found it Mark 13:30) And, according to astrology, the earth was entering the Picses era (hence all the fish and fisherman symbolism of Christianity) and the earth was shifting so there were a lot of major earthquakes-on a History channel show, there are even wriiten accounts of the ocean 'boiling' and rats, dogs and cats kept running away to the hills b/c of the earths crust acting up.
So, September 11 (although it's not a happy memory) is not that big a deal, compared to other past world events.

Very valid question. In almost every generation there have been the horrors of war, disease, poverty and death - many times people have thought "surely this MUST be a sign that the end is near", and you can understand why if you are a prisoner at a concentration camp and watching thousands go to the crematories
ahead of you.
The reason NOW IS RIGHT is simple:
Scripture is clear that the event that MUST occur in order that the end generation be
ushered in, is that the Tribe of Judah will
return to their God-designated lands, and establish a State there. That event occured
on May 15, 1948.

Even though past generations had plenty
good reasons to feel the end was near,
prophetically it was not possible. It is now.

LOL..

There is no difference at all between this time and earlier except that if there was going to be some accuracy found in the predictions of the bible they would probably already have happened. Even Jesus wasn't likely to be thinking about the concerns of 20th century man any more than we consider the fate of 40th century man.

If the end is possible at any second, it has been equally possible at any other second and there have been billions of seconds gone by. One billion seconds ago it was 1959... one billion minutes ago, the bible was being written by a bunch of goofy nomad sheep herders. There has been plenty of time for Jesus to return; so, face it folks, he's just hasn't been there to do it.

I think the end of man will be decided just as his beginning was decided... by the chances occurrences of evolutionary change. It's my guess that the end of the Earth will happen in a well localized catastrophic event or a direct collision with another body. The universe will never end but only change itself periodically.

As to the bible's book of revelations, it's filled with pure nonsense, isn't it? The only thing of truth it is every likely to reveal is which of us is fool enough to put stock in it.

The Bible refers to WW1 , and says that the generation that was alive to see it would also live to witness the end of this system . Obviously it doesn`t mean that every single person in that generation will live top see it , but generally .

The Bible also mentions that people of our time live to "four score" years , and the "mightiest" to "four score and ten" ........... that`s 80 and 90 years respectively .

Assuming a person was born at the end of WW1 (1918) , he/she would now be about 89 years old .

That doesn`t leave much more time ............ less than a year in my opinion , although I expect many or most will disagree with that .

The Bible says the end will come "as a thief in the night" , which would be suddenly and unexpectedly , without any warning at all !

God says "He will cut the time short , otherwise no flesh would be saved" during Armaggedon . (that`s not exactly word-for-word , but as best as I can remember)

Well, it could be because all the prophecies aren't done yet. For instance, Israel had to become a nation again, and that didn't happen until 1948, so it couldn't have happened before then. Also, the entire world has to see the 2 witnesses, which could not have happened before television was available to all countries, and the mark of the beast being on the hand or forehead wasn't really possible in terms of keeping people from buying or selling until the verichip gets perfected, which they're still working on.

Very interesting question.

Consider that early Christians (of the first century) stopped working and merely waited to Christ's return. I wonder what THEY thought after it didn't happen.

Being a Christian myself, I'm not sure what I think of "the end times." The only "end times" I can really speculate about is the one in about 15 billion years when our sun is supposed go nova.

Your point is well taken.

A participant above us here pointed out a site which gives a peek at 'end times' in days gone by. It opens in 2800 BC:

'According to Isaac Asimov's Book of Facts (1979), an Assyrian clay tablet dating to approximately 2800 BC was unearthed bearing the words, "Our earth is degenerate in these latter days. There are signs that the world is speedily coming to an end. Bribery and corruption are common." This is one of the earliest examples of the perception of moral decay in society being interpreted as a sign of the imminent end.'

Okay, another R&S question, which means more speculation on heavenly retribution. How is right now more the end of times? Because frankly, we do not need help, doomwise, from the Big Guy Upstairs anymore. Why not? Can you say thermonuclear war? I knew that you could.
