Whats causing this toothache-like pain in my nose?

This morning i started to notice an odd pain in my nose, specifically on the wall seperating my nostrils. It hurts much like a toothache, relatively dull, but increasing in intensity when i inhale, especially cold air, through my nose. What is more irritating/concerning is the effect it has had on my sense of smell. More aggressive odors (especially cigarette smoke) have actually become painful to experience. A whiff of cigarette smoke is what alerted me to this. Usually the scent does not bother me in the least, but now, it strikes me incredibly hard, smelling uncharacteristically tinny and metallic, as well as painful.

Basically, this is strange and somewhat irritating and i was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or might know what could be at fault.

As goofy as this sounds....do you have acne?

Sometimes acne will form on the inside of the nose, and cause all sorts of weird symptoms. ..A hair in the nose gets involved in the zit, and suddenly anything that irritates the hair hurts like heck.

I'd have a doctor take a look up there. If it's completely fiscally out of the question, you can see if it resolves itself in a couple of days...but more than 3 days and you need to see someone.

I've had similar problems on rare occasions. Usually, it goes away as quickly as it came, so I've never consulted a doctor about it.

It could be that you slept in just the wrong way such that you inadvertently pushed the nose cartilage (the part that actually forms your nose) away from the sinuses (the areas behind your nose), so that they are just more "open", and, thus, more sensitive.

Cold air dries-up the mucous membranes of your nose and sinuses, thus making them more sensitive (eating ice cream really fast will have the same effect).

Any tiny particle that gets lodged in your nose may cause similar symptoms, but, usually, it's accompanied by mucous, which is your body's way of expelling such foreign matter.

A simple tension headache could also cause it
(i.e., it's not necessarily a "head" ache, per se).

Your probably having sinus problems. Go to your doctor and get checked out.
