No it won't for our generation, successive generations may not take it as seriously as we do. Just look at the significance that Pearl harbor holds for people of the WW2 generation.

And before I get a thumbs down, I'm a New Yorker and work in lower Manhattan. I think we should never lose the lesson, but I don't think we need to keep focus on that specific day. It's time that, us as a nation, move on.

I certainly hope not. Personally, the effects 9/11 have had on me will never lessen much less wear off.

Not any sooner than the effects of WWII or the Holocaust would. If we became too aloof with regards to the events of that day we become targets all over again, which is just what those nut cases want us to do.
