What I find particularly disturbing is the last photo with the young child holding the sign. How can anyone do that to their child? These photos were taken at a funeral for a fallen soldier from Iraq. These horrible people were protesting his funeral and holding these disgusting signs up as his family and friends were attending. I have no idea where the anti-homosexual business comes from with this unless it is to further add insult to injury and they are just being nasty. (sidebar: I have no beef with homosexuals at all...these people are out of their minds!)

To all those who have served to protect this country and it's people, I thank you from the bottom of my heart and give you the ultimate respect.
I had NO IDEA that there were people out there like this! I am outraged and disgusted by this garbage! I have never heard of this Phelps character before you guys mentioned it. I am mortified by all of this!

I find or found when I heard about it very disturbing. That people, in the name of GOD, would do such a thing. Do they have no humanity, or compassion for anything. There was a story in the news a few weeks ago, that told of a 5 year old boy in Iraq, doused with gas and lit on fire for what ever reason. I guess to garner the name extremists. I feel that these people are on par with those, stopping at nothing to make a political point.
The worst part of it is, the service member gave his life defending the right for them to do so.
Is anyone going to try to defend what they are doing??

This is such a sickening bunch of people that I don't think they deserve the right to hold up their hateful signs. They should be thankful they live in a country where our constitution allows them the freedom to practice their twisted religion. Notice I said religion, not Christianity, because no true Christian would ever think this way.
The only thing good that has come out of their protests are the Patriot Guard. These bikers are truly what our country stands for and they do all they can to insure no grieving family is exposed to these ridiculous cult members.

These people are scum. Here in Illinois they cant get close to the funeral plus the Patriot Guard stands between the family and the scum. They came to a soldiers funeral in my city. They couldnt even get within a mile of the funeral. As soon as the peole heard they were here people lined the streets so they could not get close. They got to protest to the backs of the people who honored the fallen soldier.

The people in question not only have a problem with homosexuals they obviously have a problem with them men and women who are putting their lives on the line for their homophobic as*es. They believe anyone in the military is gay and they would be surprised at the percentage of them that are which I would guess to be very small with the don't ask don't tell policy. I have no beef with homosexuals either and believe they can defend this country just as well as a heterosexual soldier. It's sad to see freedom to express yourself has gone this far but still thankful that we have it

Remember the part of your oath of enlistment or office that says '..to defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC..'
The enemy is among us, claiming they hold the moral high ground and cast judgments on upon our honored dead, invading the funeral services upsetting and offending the families of the dead. There will be a price to pay one day, using their child as a tool for media attention. Whatever goes around, comes around....

These people have a problem.
And they are the scum of the Earth doing that at a military funeral. Soldiers do what they are ordered to do, and their sacrifice is an honerable one.
I don't know what's wrong with people sometimes.

these fruitcakes are the members of the westside baptist church in topeka,ks.
i think all the members are the family of fred phelps.
the church is in name only.they are not recognized by the baptist church.
they started out protesting just homosexuals but i think figured out they could get more national attention by protesting funerals.
the connection between the two is that america is being punished for allowing homosexuality to be accepted.

I agree, this is just sick. First of all, people need to respect our fallen soldiers and their families and not pollute their funerals with pointless hate. Second, people need to get a grip. No one speaks for God. Third, brainwashing young children to parrot the hatred and bais of their parents is disgusting.
Just my opinion.

I can't even fathom that there are people in this country who would do that. I am totally astonished. Can't even think of what I am feeling I am so angry. My Daughter is serving in the U.S. Army right now in Iraq. What does this tell them? that we don't care. We should send them to Iraq!!!!!!
