you're in a bar with 3 girl friends and a guy walks in you like the look of and start giving him the eye.

He returns the eye contact to you.

Are you looking at him just to be friendly or would you be trying to tell him you like him and that you want him to approach you?

second part of the question.....if this guy does approach you and you are sitting chatting to your friends, will you be inclined to pay immediate attention to the guy to show your interest?

lastly.....do simple lines like can i buy you a drink work as openers these days? - this would be my approach anyway

Well, it could be a look of appreciation for what she sees. It could be a look of interest. Or if she just happened to look up when he walked in and caught his eye, it could be just a friendly gesture. The only way to know is to approach her. She may be in a girlfriend-only mood, or she may be interested in talking to you. She will let you know what sort of mood she's in. You can offer to buy a drink, but don't necessarily be offended if she says no. With so many instances of drugs being put in drinks and the like, if she says no to the drink, she could just be cautious. Personally, I never accept drinks from strangers, unless I personally watch the bartender make it and hand it directly to me. You have to be so cautious these days.

You could just be looking at the guy being friendly, that question works either way. If the guy were to approach me, being that I started looking his way to begin with I would pay attention to him. And yes simple lines like, "Can I buy you a drink", they work these days. Anymore questions?? LOL

The simplest track approximately this specified obstacle could be "Hotel California" through The Eagles. Still a fine album--I have an ancient vinyl replica that I bought for my 14th birthday in (choke) 1977.
