I just got back from the beach about a week ago for Labor day weekend and since then I have these little itchy red bumps on my legs and some on my arm that you can barely see. I put lotion on thinking it's because my skin is dry from being in the sun and shaving but that doesn't help. I don't know what it is from and it's very annoying. Can someone help me out if you think you know what it is from or if there is anything I can put on it without having to go to the doctor?

maybe some kind of shrubbery that you rubbed up against or something. That happened to me once when I went to the shore to do some fishing. Give it a few days and it should go away. I even had some on my face!

You didn't say how many bumps or how widespread the bumps are, but my first reaction was to say you seem to have a heat rash.
I started using those moisturizing body washes and I use hand lotion every couple of days to moisturize my skin. During the summer I notice, if I use a rich moisturizer that goes on oily and takes a while to absorb into the skin it will become irritated and break out in a rash. First I tried some rubbing alcohol to dry it out and then I tried vinegar. Neither one worked because once I went out into the sun and heat again it started all over again.
I went to a dollar store and bought a $2 tube of hydrocortisone and put that on it and it cleared up right away with just a couple of applications. Once it cleared up I never got it again.
I had to stop using oily moisturizers during the summer and I use a Suave hand lotion that absorbs so quickly it often dries before I can spread it all around, but it doesn't irritate my skin. I save the oily lotions for winter time when the cold dries my skin out.
If you can go swimming in a pool the chemicals usually dry out the skin, but don't use suntan lotion and be sure and leave out the moisturizers until it(the rash) has dried out and cleared up.

They could be either chiggers (red bugs) or bites from sand fleas. Either way, take a hot, long bath - no bubbles or oils or anything else....Just water as hot as you can stand. Gently clean the bites after about a 15 to 20 minute soak. If they are bites, that should be enough. Try a cortisone or anti-biotic cream. If it is red bugs, once you are done in the bath, drain the tub, refill with hot water again and put a gallon of bleach in the water. Soak for about 20 minutes (I worked a wreck where a car hit an oak tree covered in Spanish moss. I got red bugs from the moss and this worked for me). If all else fails, see a dermatologist.

Could be bites from sand fleas (probably not), bumps from shaving, or even sun poisoning. Try Calamine lotion or some anti-itch cream. It concerns me that you still have these after a week. If they don't clear up in the next few days, I think you need to take a trip to the doctor.

Good luck! :)

It could be sand flea bites. Sand fleas are just little bugs that live at the beach, and they can bite the heck out of you. You can put cortisone cream or benedryl cream, which can help the itching. If in a few more days they're still there, you should have a doctor look at them.

That is probably from "no-see-ums". They are microscopic bugs that hang out in beach sand or anywhere near water. I would think an oatmeal bath (like Aveeno) and continually applying lotion will do the trick. If that doesn't help, ask your pharmacist for an over the counter treatment.

Try all the itch cream first for a week or so, if not improved, better see doctor. My neck started to get red bump, but not itch after a camping trip. I used all kind of cream, did not go away. Saw a doctor, he put me on antibiotic and those bumps started to disappeared. Good luck.

Well every summer I get a heat rash on my elbows and the back of my legs...from the way you described it, it doesnt seem serious, it sounds the same as to what i have...i just use cortizone, or you can use any itch reliever, all of them work...if after 2-3 days if it doesn't help at all, it may be sun poison(not as bad as it sounds), and just to your doctor(a dermitologist isnt nessessary) and they will perscribe something for you...dont worry, yout wil be fine...if you have any questions, feel free to send me a message, ill be happy to help you...hope this helps!!!! = ]

I had that same problem when i went to the lake. it might just be a rash from being out in the hot and wearing a bathing suite all day. i got some hydrocodizone and used that to get rid of them. if they dont go away in about 3 days check with your doctor.

It sounds like it might be sand mites or some other insect. Try Benadryl or a topical lotion such as Calamine.
