With a cat that is 14 years old there is probably something up with her bowels or her urinary tract, which is why she's staying in her box. The other reason is that she may be staking out her territory, especially if there's a new human or animal in the household.

If she is suddenly losing weight thats a concern to me,,,,,,,, I'm not sure why they lay in the cat box? U mean the litter box? I have an aunt who has 2 that do that on a regular basis and have been for years-Or do u mean her cat house type thing? If u do then she could be sick ect,,,,,, She is realy old for a cat. I just had a cat that lived to be 18 that died 2 years ago and another that lived to be 15 and died 2 years ago also. SO when they get that old u really need to keep an eye on their health.I would just WATCH her really good for anymore odd "Symptoms" and if you notice anymore take her to the vet.Go w/ you gut feeling,,,Know what im saying? One more thing- She COULD just be laying around more b/c she is getting older but if thats not normal for her then somethings maby up- Lots Of Luck :)

Cats will sometimes lie down in their litter boxes because they feel either insecure or because they are ill.
Your cat is considered a senior cat. Senior cats often have problems with their kidneys or other organs. If your cat is finding comfort in lying in its litter box, it sounds as though something is wrong, and you should take her in to the vet ASAP.
Good luck.

I had a cat like this...and their time is almost up when that starts to happen, especially if you don't want to 'take them to the vet'. Their organs are starting to fail and they are too sick and tired to get up when they have to 'go' all the time which is probably going to be alot.
I had a cat that her kidneys were starting to fail so instead of leaving the litter box she just laid in it so if she had to pee...which is did all the time, she's be right there.
Personally I would take them to a vet to ease their passing because if it were me I wouldn't want to live like that.

Get a cardboard field it fairly is substantial adequate for the cat and place it close to the muddle field or no longer too far-off. you could as properly desire to get a pair boxes and place them in diverse places interior the residing house. Cats desire to climb into boxes and create their very very own little territory, so supply them a thank you to try this and that they are going to flow out of the muddle field.

She is probably dehydrated. Try to get her to drink something, then take her t the vet as soon as you possibly can - before it's too late!
