I wanted to buy a new notebook but they're all Windows Vista now. All the applications I wanted to run, recording software and Photoshop don't run on VIsta. I wonder if this is affecting the PC market.

you are shopping in the stores to see all notebooks are windows vista - if you shop online, you can still get brand new laptops with windows xp installed on them - I agree, vista doesnt work that great either - for me xp has been extremely stable in the few years I have owned the OS disc - yes, I spent a LOT of money but in this case money well spent

I actually bought a Toshiba laptop back in June with Vista already loaded on. Do I kind of regret that? Yeah, I do. What stinks is that I also got a router for my birthday, but my laptop keeps saying that I am no longer getting a signal from my desktop. This has happened twice, and twice I have had to contact customer service. It worked for maybe a couple weeks, a month tops after I got help, and now it stopped working for a third time. I'm pretty sure it's because I have XP on this desktop and Vista on the laptop. I am really really sick of contacting customer service, too, and having to explain over and over again. XP and Vista just don't "connect" well, I guess. I don't know what to do; the router was seventy bucks, too, and I don't have the receipt!

I have been running Vista from the day it was released, and in beta form before that, for me at least its been nothing short of superb, any small glitches that have surfaced have been fixed easily by exercising some of the old grey matter.

Contrary to common belief, Vista can run on 512mb RAM, and quite successfully at that.
I have Vista Home Premium running superbly on 512mb RAM, 2.4ghz Pentium 4 Processor.NVIDIA GeeForce FX 5200 graphics.
It handles the 3D Aero with ease.

Vista Home Premium is the one to go for. Take no notice of those who say you need at least 2gb RAM, this is nowhere near necessary unless you are into serious gaming, which I am not.

Vista will run as fast or slow depending on what you want it to do.
Its all about Processor speed Graphics and RAM at the end of the day.

Microsoft recommend 1gb RAM, but ive managed to to tosh that by sucessfully running it on 512mb, and yes for all the doubters out there, ITS FAST !!!!!

I have Vista and have had no problems with it.

I also use Office 2007 and IE 7--no problems

I push my computer to the max, as i am a developer...and still no problems.

I am sure that there are some users having problems...but i think the problems you hear about are more gossip than fact....i am impressed with some of the new stuff.

you can however, still get XP...and if you feel unsure about the Vista os...then i would stick with XP until you feel safe enough to upgrade.

good luck :)

Gee whillikers, you're in a foul way, and in spite of everything that typing, you nonetheless did no longer tell me (us) what we could renowned. So supply your palms a robust relax and let us know what we could renowned, like: have you ever performed any maintenance, if so, what? Your CPU? Your RAM? Your HDD area? Your OS? have you ever set the digital RAM to be run via the OS? Your pictures card potential. (on-board RAM volume)? Do you kiss the laptop goodnight each night? etc. yet, don vorry, I tink I be knowink de perobelem, oh ya! Double your RAM. do no longer bypass away the rest on the Taskbar whilst doing video, video clips and working the internet all jointly. in the adventure that your RAM runs out, the HDD will use the HDD as RAM (very slow approach), and in case you're working low on HDD area, the digital RAM will bypass nuts and close down or act nutzy (like yer palms);-) have you ever put in greater RAM yet?

I'm looking to buy a mac instead because it seems people have less problems with continuity and less problems overall.
