It should be for life. You do have to look at your eyesight for the past 5-6 years. If it has concistantly gotten worse, and you have been good at wearing glasses (not contact lenses), then you can get the surgery done, but you will probably have to wear glasses again when your eyesight gets worse again. Contact lenses are unreliable predictor of this because your eyes will now have access to air, unlike they were w/ contacts, which will slow the degenerate process.
If you have been fairly consistant for 5 years, then you probalby will not have to ever get the surgery again. I got mine done from Dr. Rahamni in Brownstown MI (he did one of the Detroit Pistons also). He has a lifetime care package with all his surgerys. If you ever need surgery again, it is covered no matter what, no cost to you.
I had mine done almost 7 years ago now, when I was 21. I still have perfict vision. My father got it done the same day with me and he still has perfict vision. I was a -4.5 while my father was a -8.5!
