It's related back to the original sin. Adam and Eve were blissfully naked but once they ate the fruit they suddenly were aware that nakedness was not right (rather strange that), so they clothed themselves with leafs. God, being all knowing, realized they had eaten the fruit when he saw them clothed, and killed animals for better clothes thus shedding blood. (Uh, why are untanned animal skins better than leafs? And why not spin flax or cotton?). This spilling of blood was then needed to "cover" sin until a perfect sacrifice could be made to remove it.

So from this, we see that if the creation myth is metaphorical or just untrue, there was no reason for a perfect sacrifice.

Draw your own conclusions.

Edit:
Forgot to mention that we have sin due to the original sin, i.e. Adam and Eve rebelled but the rest of us were born into it. Seems rather harsh espcially since this is the second rebellion that came from his creations....

Oh... not to mention that not only was man cursed but that all of creation was curse to suffer old age, die and return to dust.

It was to represent what was to come in the person of Jesus. He didn't need it, people did. It was a way for them to clear their consciences. He doesn't need any sacrifices other than us being willing to give up trying to do things our way, which I have found wasn't the great sacrifice I thought it would be. He has made my life much better than I ever could do. He gave me more than I gave up. Not a bad deal.

You obviously dont understand sacrifice.
When Adam sinned against God... God showed him what had to be done to redeem his descendants.
The sacrifice was done so that God knew that man understood where he stood with God.
God had put a curse on the fruit of the tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. If man ate it he would die.
As a result all of us will die
The sacrifice lets God know we understand we are going to die
Then what
God sent his Son to become the ultimate sacrifice to save us from this death
We still are going to die all of us but those who believe in Jesus Gods only begotton Son and believe he died for us
then he will resurrect us to have everlasting life

Gods created humans to offer them sacrifice, because they can not cook. The Abrahamic god is no different from those who came before him. Even today, Islam still practises blood sacrifice. Circumcision is also a form of blood sacrifice.

You don't get it. The penalty of sin is death, and the sacrifices were a way of getting the point across regarding death and the loss associated with death.

So, do you wish to die?

Or would you like a way out, like someone else paying the penalty for you so that you can live?

This all powerful God will not compromise with sin, which is the antithesis of what He is and what He stands for.

You can always carp and gripe He is being unfair, unjust, etc. and pay the penalty yourself.

Old Testament. God's ways are not our ways. I don't know why he insisted on sacrifices. Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice and now all we need to do is go directly to the father through Jesus Christ for forgivness of sins. The cross gave us freedom in Christ.

Judy, not every man wants a virgin for a wife, including myself. I'm experienced, she should be too.

And blood sacrfices these days are very few in number save for the few fanatical sects of various religions who still practice this.

Cuz thats the way the Jews wrote the book, and the original Chrisitans that pirated it werent creative enough to write that part out.

Judy - speak for yourself. I dont want a virgin for a wife. Id test drive any major purchase before committing to it.

Why does he have a self-esteem problem? What kind of omnipotent being needs worship to feel better?

The whole thing is such absolute hogwash that no rational person could really believe any of it. The religious world is full of posers and wishful thinking.
