For this question there are two ways to answer. One in a scientific way, another in philosophical way.
In physical science there it is said that energy has got velocity. If it is so the PRANA which we usually say is a part of the total universal energy.
When somebody dies it means that the energy within him/her came out of the etheric body.
Energy cant be sublimed It should always be dynamic. Hence as soon as the energy is released from a body it trie to reach the universal energy. In its course if the energy from the body goes with an escape velocity it will fuse into the total energy and it will never come back to earth.
This is called MOKSHA,Union with God.
If the released energy cant go with escape velocity it will be circling in the earths atmosphere like a satellite. And as said immediately it has to find a body it too-ks a suitable body just ready to born. It may be a human being,it may be an animal like that.
But the deeds done in the previous birth(JANMA) helps in selecting for rebirth.
This is what said in Bhagavtgeeta, puranas etc.
So we have to feel great and proud to be a humanising and should do good thing either to reunite with the total energy or to take a rebirth more superior than the present one.

Re-incarnation is a scientifically proved affair. Every one eknows that matter is indestructible.any person , irrespective of his faith knows that matter is indestructible .Matter is undying .Our body is made of compounds of elements that ar comeposed of elements which in turn are mad eof atoms withe eht same ais energy particles like electronand , proton wiht the nuetro to hold the proton of the same charge without repelling each other, The matter contained in the living body of the dead creature decompose and disintegrate to form new compounds that mix up wit the soil to form humus that helps vegetatioin to grow and worms to develop.the worms are eaten by the birds and other creatures that feed on them and the vegetaion absorbs the nutients in the humus . the vegetation is also eaten by animals which in turn are eaten by othere animla and the men . the matter contined in abody diinterte into the elements and get absorbed into new beings and are not decimated or destroyed into nothing .They form in to new crestures and cretures different from the one the elements belonged to.Thus matter re-incarnates and the matter is also alive and not dead at any time .Soul is the activ eprinciple of the matter .just as the lectrons of the atom being alive incessatnly. That goes no where but remains in the nucleus of he atom and constitute the soul of all lements which togerher constitute the body of the creatures .It is the energy particles that combine to make the atoms of elements the combination of which make all the compounds that create the body of living beings .So re-incarnation and re-n carnation alone is is really taking place and he universe continues to churn out new beings out of the remains of the old beings incessantly.
It is only resurrection that is unscientific and meaning less as no man or creature that is dead and burried to b eaten by the soil can ever come back to life and it is simply senseless to speak of resurrection of any being .
Any therapy is useful if the receipient believes in it. If a person in distress is told that his action in his past life is soley respopnsiel for his suffering s , he would feel assuaged to the extent that he believes in the Karmic theory and thinks that he is getting only what he deserves .Ot he would feel that what he suffers is the result of what he had done .
What ever the scriptures and the saints say should be right only if that is supported by experince and the known principles of science.Religons can not part company with reason knowledge and experience .

Not.

The idea of reincarnation from a religious point of view is that your soul has a certain goodness or badness associated with it and you keep getting reincarnated until you build up the goodness side.

Remembering past lives is not part of the deal.

In a non religious context, reincarnation makes no sense.

Past life therapies are just another way of ensuring that you go through this life a bit poorer and the therapist goes through it a bit richer.

If you believe in God then we can very easily accept the concept of rebirth. As we all came from nothing, we will also become nothing from human point of view. Again to produce us is not a difficult thing as it is just a repetition of the first stage. If you dont believe in God then it is a different story. First you have to read and believe about God. Then automatically belief in re-birth will follow. Bcos death is sure for all. ALl world major religions like Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, Judaism believes in re=birth. 80% of world population believes that.

Sri Adi Sankaracharya in one of his famous hymn Bhaja Govindam sings "Punarapi jananam punarapi maranam punarapi janani jatare shayanam" - "Again we are born, again we die and again we are ensconced in the mothers womb".

"If you accept the doctrine that men are born only once, you cannot but form the impression that God is neither compassionate nor impartial- think of all the differences at birth (A new- born child, we find one to be plump and lusty, another skinny; one beautiful and another ungainly. One child is born in a comfortable ward [that is to a well-to-do mother] and another to a poor mother) and that he functions erratically and unwisely. How are we to be devoted to such a God and have the faith that he will look on us with mercy? How are we to account for the differences between one being and another if we do not accept the doctrine that our life now is determined by the good and the bad we did in our past births.

Such an explanation is not, however, good enough for people in modern times. They demand scientific proof of reincarnation. Parapsychologists have done considerable research in the subject and their findings are in favour of the theory of rebirth. During the studies conducted in various parts of the world they encountered people who remembered their past lives. The latter recalled places and people they had seen in their previous birth-places and people that have nothing to do with them now. The parapsychologists verified these facts and to their amazement found them to be true. The cases investigated by them were numerous. Most of us are wholly unaware of our past lives, but some do remember them. According to the researchers the majority of such people had been victims of accidents or murder in their previous lives.

I do not know

But.

I know one thing that this type of therapy if it works then is great irrespective of if rebirth is possible or not.

This therapy cannot harm any one so we need to try it, if all fails and there is no more main stream treatment remaining that one can embark on.

I will take good effects of placebo, rather then suffer from no effect and further decoration.

I saw an episode of Law and Order where a rebirthing therapist was guilty of murder for suffocating her patient with blankets...

Personally, its all BS.

Knowing "the way of the joker", I will be surprise if you'll read this but here goes anyway:

"He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. " (John 1:11-13)

I bet you have no idea what is like to be born of God. No wonder you joke, I understand you.
