XP will recognize any Nikon digital camera without a problem. Just connect the usb cable and turn the camera on. The XP computer should recognize your camera and it's nestled picture folders as a virtual drive. Once you've found them, you can copy them to your "my pictures" folder in "My Documents" or to any folder you create.

I hope this is helpful.

I have tested the Nikon Software on both XP and vista with no problems at all.

Even without any software at all, the camera shows up as a removable drive in "My Computer" on XP and "Computer" in Vista. This means you can drag and drop photos when connected to ANY computer regardless of the software installed.

Of course! Currently XP has the highest compatibility factor than any other operating system and the reason why they promote the camera runs in Vista is because some older peripherals/software doesn't run properly in Vista.

you will be able to download pictures from the camera on any system that supports USB, including 98SE. However the software packages supplied with the camera is not interchangeable between Vista and older systems. It takes more than a "driver" to get software to load and run. This may affect your ability to work with raw format files on your xp.
