I'm sorry I think it is funny, my friend is a receptionist and whenever she hangs up with someone she says "buh bye" and her boss told her to try to stop it. She says she is trying but it just naturally is difficult to LOL.

What do you guys think?

I think in an office environment it is unprofessional to say Buh-Bye. Thank you, good day or even good bye sounds much nicer. In all honesty would you want a person on the telephone from a business that you phoned to talk to you like that?

Huh, I never thought about that. I also share the resposibilities of answering phones in my office for 2 hours per day. When I close the conversation I say: "Have a great day. Buh-bye." No one has ever reprimanded me for it and it always prompts the caller to be pleasantly surprised by my friendly closing statement. As opposed to the other girls in my offices that answer phones, who just pretty much hang up at the end of a call. I rarely ever get unpleasant phone calls and I think it feels more personal to the caller. You can hear the smile in their voice then I tell them to have a great day. Maybe I should just leave it at that.

Professionally speaking yes. Unfortunately for some it is a habit that is formed early on and can be very hard to break. Suggest to her that she should try placing a post-it-note close to her phone with a proper greeting on it or something that tells her to NOT EVER SAY BUH-BYE again.

In that situation I would consider it very unprofessional. I find buh bye to be borderline sarcastic too.

Perhaps your friend could practice using Good Bye in all her phone conversations. Maybe suggest she go so far as to make a card to place by her phone with the words spelled out large!

I understand that that's by organic habit that your chum says "buh bye," she possibly would not even are conscious of it herself, yet I do discover it to be unprofessional and in addition to, so does her boss so she needs to make the extra attempt to re-application herself to no longer stop telephone calls in that way. it won't in user-friendly terms help her sound extra expert, in spite of the undeniable fact that that's going to additionally make human beings take her extra heavily as a co-worker. I take place to declare the notice "like" (i.e. valley girlish) lots yet i might in no way talk like that at my place of employment! i do no longer my co-workers to think of i'm an un-knowledgeable hick even although i'm no longer, yet human beings do decide different by their speach. tell her to attempt to asserting have a howdy/afternoon as a substitute of buh bye or good bye. If she alters the word all at the same time it is going to make it much less complicated for her to drop her undesirable habit!

lol, no it prob is not professional, but when someone's at my office complaining and I don't want to hear anymore I just start saying "buh bye now" really loudly till they finally leave. I used to have thick glass in front of me so they would think that I just couldn't hear them and would eventually just give me a dirty look and leave. I got a kick out of it, lol. :)

Unprofessional is a bit strong, perhaps too casual though for many offices. I can see where it would be a difficult habit to break, but she's just going to have to force herself to substitute another expression in it's place.
Buh bye! (oops I mean good afternoon!)

I have to agree with the boss. "Buh bye", in my mind, is reserved for babies and toddlers.
