F-18 or F-22
I really think our Pilots are better than Russian Pilots
Soviet Migs are good but I think they were over rated

Like they've said, define best. what role is likely the biggest Question. For Air Superiority, In my opinion, the F-22, for reasons listed above. More importantly, however, since it's likely what you meant, is Dogfighting. For so long, the F-16, and to a lesser degree, the F-15 were regarded as the pinnacle of this, but now we have the F-22, Eurofighter Typhoon, and Mig-29/Su-27 to add to the list. Should the Su-47 come into play, it would be, no doubt. I actually think that the Eurofighter Typhoon would work better, with the Falcon, Raptor, Fulcrum, and Flanker a close 2nd. Only one person has ever flown both the F-22 and the Typhoon, and he said "it's like comparing a NASCAR and an Indy car, they're each exciting in their own way", meaning that since the F-22 wasn't meant to be a dogfighter at it's core, it's not fair to judge it so. So- Air Superiority**- F-22/F15 (Speed-Manuverabilty-Climbing)
Dogfighting**-Eurofighter Typhoon/F-15(Speed-Manuverability-Lotta weapons
Attack**- F-117 (Med.-Long Range) A-10 II(Close-in Support)
My two cents :D

The F-22 is a nice aircraft, and it is also stealthy, but not one aircraft is completly undetectable by radar. Even the F-117 and B-2 are prone to detection at some points in time. The F-14 happens to be a very powerful aircraft. It has long range strike capabilities and is highly reknowned. The F-15 however is a very powerful aircraft.

As far as I'm concerned, the F-14 Tomcat is the best fighter jet ever created in the world.

The F-14 comes in three variations, and the engines differ depending on the version of the aircraft. The F-14A Tomcat has two Pratt & Whitney TF-30P-414A turbofan engines with afterburners, whereas the F-14B Tomcat and the F-14D Tomcat have two General Electric F-110-GE-400 augmented turbofan engines with afterburners. The F-14A’s engines produce 20,900 pounds (9,405 kg) of static thrust per engine, whereas the F-14B’s and the F-14D’s engines produce 27,000 pounds (12,150 kg) of static thrust per engine. These engines allow all versions of the F-14 to reach maximum speeds exceeding Mach 2 (2× the speed of sound). It was such a powerful aircraft that it remained in service while more advanced aircraft were made. The variable sweep wings gave the F-14 superior maneuverability at both low and high speeds. This made the Tomcat stand out from the rest of America’s modern fighter planes by being the first successful fighter with variable sweep wings.

The 'Raptor'. According to reports the best aerial fighting machine ever built.

Reasons:
1) It always gets you, does not let you out of its sights once in
your '6 o'clock' position.
2) Speed in excess of Mach 2.
3) Stealth capability.
4) Multiple role capability
5) Sustained high Mach number capability
6) Latest technology combined with the capability to
intelligently launch multiple weapons.
7) A very effective weapon in the hands of a good pilot.
8) Most verstaile fighter around in these times.
9) All weather capability
10) Stand off weapons launch capability (beyond the
horizon)

Details are multiple and you can get them over the web.

The absolutely, positively, hands down very best fighter jet in the world is the one that has the best pilot in the seat. Been proven time and time again.

The F-22 has been tried against as many as four or five F-16's or F15's and has been phenominally successful. there is no contest.

However John B is right. The best pilot is more important than the best plane.

Currently I would say the F-15 E Scream Eagle. It's not the #1 in dogfighting, gorund attack, manuverability or in speed. but it's very near #1 in all those categories. When you need an all-around quality aircraft in your Air Force you need F-15. in the future the F-35 may be the best all-around, especially since includes stealth, but it won't have the bomb load. Stick with the Scream Eagle

i have to go with the F-22 Raptor it has stealth can fire up to 4 targets at once and it has good climb rate and oh and the pilot unlike in the F-15 the F-22 is easir to fly.
in f-15 the pilote has to use 75%-80% of his brain power just to see whats going on.the two websites will tell you alot

the F-22 Raptor By far
they have stealth capabilities of up to a 25 mile radius
(in other words enemy aircraft cant see them unless their less than 25 miles away) they also carriy several aim-120 AMRAM missiles capable of hittin a target over 25 miles away so ur practicaly dead before your radar can lock on to the raptor's signiture. Its crazy fast and has a higher ceiling and rate of climb than most other aircraft out there.
It has Thrust vectoring cappabilities (a fancy way of saying its exaust rotates up to 30 degrees up n down providing sharper turns and accent/decent) and plus to this day it has a 108 to zero kill ratio having Zero raptors lost to areial combat. thats why i think its the best
