carseats are supposed to be replaced every 5 years due to the changing of standards. there should be a date on the bottom of the car seat that says replace after this date if not i would replace it. better safe than sorry.

Believe me, i completely understand wanting to reuse baby items because they are terribly expensive. The only thing i would not reuse is the carseat. Over time the plastic and materials can start to break down from heat and prior use, which can make it unsafe and virtually useless in the event of an auto accident. Also, safety regulations change all the time and the new carseats are more up to date. You can check the expiration date or even call the manufacturer and ask, but ultimately you want your child to be safe and sometimes that costs money that you may not want to spend. Good luck!

All the answers were very good. Another plus to getting a new car seat is that they are easier to buckle, and to adjust. The new seats are 5 point, not 3 like the old ones. They buckle
1.left side of hip
2. right side of hip
3. left shoulder
4. right shoulder
5. crotch, in between legs.

Try contacting your Dept. of Transportation or Department of Motor Vehicles. I am not sure what it is called where you live, but you can probably take the seat there and have them tell you if it is ok. Our D.O.T. (in Texas) has car seat safety checks all the time. Good luck on both car seat and the new baby!!!

go to your local fire department and have them check, or ask your insurance company. i know for a fact that an infant carseat is good for upto 5 years after that you should replace it

So long as it hasn't been involved in an accident, it will be.
