There is no set age. It depends on the circumstances. The reason for the vaccines is to support the kittens immune system. Mother's milk provides the immunity but when the kittens are starting to be weaned that is when the AVMA suggests starting the vaccines. Once vaccinated the immune system actually takes a dive for a few weeks before it is back to normal.

What also is not common knowledge is that kittens have an adult immune system with regard to these vaccines. IOW if you find a stray kitten and you suspect that it is 12 weeks or older only ONE vaccine is needed to support the immune system for the first year..

Once you get the booster one year later then the protocol is once every THREE years.

The same with the rabies vaccine.

However the pharmaceutical companies would like you do use as much vaccine as possible to line their wallets.

As a professional breeder my cats are kept with Mom until they are almost 12 weeks then they go for surgery (spay-neuter) They are vaccinated one week later and they are set for the year.

They get their first set of shots between 6-8 weeks of age, depending on their weight. They get 2 sets of booster shots after the initial vaccination, the first at 12 weeks, and the second at 16 weeks of age.

I believe that most animals should be at least 6 weeks old before they get their first shots but ask the Vet.
