We are getting our food catered. It will be four appetizers (not sure which ones yet, but it includes mini-chicken tortillas which my fiance liked), chicken parmigiana, grilled vegetables, roast beef, mashed potatoes, pasta with vegetables w/olive oil (I'm a vegan so we have to have some things I can eat--I'll be a hungry bride)!, rolls, a couple of vegetable, fruit, & cheese displays, and a chocolate fountain. Basically, the roast beef/mashed potatoes will go together, the chicken & pasta, & then there are some random things for anyone who wants sides/appetizers and for the vegetarians (there will probably be about 10 vegetarians). This is all a buffet and will cost $3100 or so including service charges, assuming 100 people.
As for the drinks, our reception site allows you to bring your own, so I'm estimating $2000 for drinks and bartending service. I will have to think hard about what wines, beers, and liquor to buy! I might even have to get an ABC permit to carry that much alcohol, LOL :) I already have an inexpensive white wine in mind--it's an odd one called Obsession, made with a newer hybrid grape. I would like to serve some fancy martinis, maybe Pomegranate, Raspberry, or Pineapple Upside Down Cake (mainly because these are my favorites!).
Haven't gotten my cake yet, but the caterer won't charge a fee if we get it somewhere else, which is nice. I hope it is not too expensive because everything else sure is! But a lot of guests will be coming from out of town and out of state, so we want to give them a good meal. This is an evening reception, starting around 6:30.
Oh yes, I forgot--we are having the reception in a circular crystal ballroom at a historic site, which is a small Castle in North Carolina (mainly used for weddings) called Castle McCulloch. We won't actually be in the Castle, though. We'll be in the crystal ballroom.
Congratulations & happy planning!

We are still in the beginning stages of planning but we are planning on having my FH's favorite BBQ restaurant cater. The best part is it will only be around $550!
We are planning beer and wine with champagne for a toast but with the money we are saving on food we might opt for a few liquor choices. We will also have iced tea and sweet tea along with soda choices and apple juice for the kids.
We are going to have the cake decorator make us the top tier and frost Styrofoam tiers to match. Giving the illusion of a the $400 dollar cake I wanted. But there will be sheet cake in the back that will be served to the guests, and no one will no the difference. It's going to cost about $125. (Publix has beautiful choices at a fraction of the cost of specialty bakeries.) The grooms cake should run us about $50.
We haven't signed any contracts or anything and are still open to other options, but it's looking like we will be holding the ceremony and reception at a local state park's historical meeting hall. It's $100 for 4 hours.
Government facilities I'm finding to be super cheap.
I hope this helps. Can't wait to read the other responses.
Congrats and Good Luck!

Our wedding and reception will be at the Marvimon, a loft space in downtown LA. http://www.marvimon.com/
We are having fruit and assorted, imported cheeses for the cocktail hour. For dinner, a served salad of mixed greens, pears, candied walnuts and gorgonzola, with a balsamic vinaigrette. For the buffet, a choice of grilled salmon or chicken Marsala with artichokes, with a side of grilled veggies and small roasted red potatoes.
Of course cake for dessert, but our caterer is throwing in chocolate covered strawberries and cookies.
Open full, bar throughout the night, including a champagne toast and after dinner aperitifs.
The cost for the food is about $68 per person, which includes staff and rentals, but kids are much cheaper, since they have a kid's menu. We are providing the alcohol and cake. They don't charge a cake cutting fee.

We are offering a choice between sirloin steak, roast turkey or grilled salmon. Each served with roasted baby red potatoes, grilled vegies, and a mixed green salad. Dessert will be chocolate cake with orange filling, and edible flowers decorating the cake. It will run about $16 per person.
We are also providind soft drinks and a keg of bar, all other drinks will be a cash bar. Open bars are not common at all in this area.

We're still deciding. But so far we've discussed having a clam bake: Lobster, clams, and the whole sheebang.
Drinks: We'll be having an ice sculpture to pour our signature drink, whick will be a martini made with Chambord. We'll be having and open bar, with beer (Sam Adams and maybe 2 other choices) and german white wine (our favorite) and a chilean or argentinean red wine.
We are still deciding, we have just picked a couple of things, location, theme and still debating over food. We just got started on the planning. Since we changed the location, we are looking at $150 pp now.
Good luck

We had a buffet dinner at a hotel ballroom. We had Baron of Beef, turkey and the trimmings; baby roasted potatoes; hot mixed veggies; big variety of salads; buns, cheeses, pickles; a variety of cheesecakes and dainties. We had a full open bar, with red and white wine available at every table.
We hosted 200 people. Sorry, can't remember the cost of the reception alone - total wedding was 25k.

I am having an italian buffet. I am not sure what all will be on it yet but here is kind of what I am thinking...
Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo
Beef Ravioli with Red sauce
Chicken Parmesan
And something else of some sort.
Also, salads on the table and our wedding cake.
It will cost $16.95 and it includes one glass of wine.
I will also be having a barrel of root beer and a barrel of real beer for the dance.

Our menu is a bouquet of baby greens with mozarella and cherry tomatoes and stuffed organic chicken breast with sundried tomato risotto. Passed appetizers are blackened rock shrimp on an endive leaf and coconut crusted chicken with a dipping sauce... we're also having a cheese and fruit display. Here's a picture of our salad...

This is where we're getting married:
It's the Mission Palms in Arizona. It has always been mine and my fiance's favorite place to stay for mini vacations, so it has special meaning to us.

The food is $55/person including appetizers, salad, main course, cake and champagne. We're also having an open bar - that's an extra cost. All said and done, the entire wedding is costing about 20,000 for 160 guests.

We're having 2, I guess...we're having a destination wedding with a small buffet luncheon afterward on the beach at a small cafe...grilled chicken breast, mahi mahi, rice, veggies, salad, key lime pie...we're having a big reception in our hometown a little later at a pcinic grove and serving steamed clams, steaks, burgers, hotdoge, grilled chicken, salads, baked beans, etc...wedding cake...open bars at both parties. The smaller beach lunch is $35 per person, the clambake is $27 per person + bar for both.
