I am not a camera expert and I'm about to buy my first digital camera. I would like something that takes moving things or to be able to make great night shots (like from concerts). I want it to have a zoom and my budget is $300. Thanks for your help. Any brand is fine !

If you're looking for zoom, I would choose the cheapest of these cameras.
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H2 6 megapixels, 12X optical zoom
Fujifilm FinePix S5200 5 megapixels, 10X optical zoom

All of the major brands are good. Choose a brand that appeals to you. Then you have to think about getting a spare battery, what size memory card, if you want an extended warranty, how much you can afford, what size zoom, if you want manual controls, the size of the camera, finding a reliable place to purchase it, and the list goes on and on and on.......
The first thing to realize is that almost any digital camera will take good pictures. If more people would read the manual more than once, they would be able to take better pictures. Usually, the person assumes it is the camera when it could be them not knowing exactly what to do. Just give yourself more photographic knowledge by doing more reading on the internet.
I really believe buying a camera is an individual choice.
The person needs to read alot of reviews on cameras so they can decide on the features that they really want and need.
Go to the store and hold them so you can see if they feel comfortable in your hands. If possible, take some pictures in the store to check the quality of the pictures.
I can only give a suggestion of what to look for in a new digital camera.

Sony DSC-W55/B Digital Camera
that is an amazing camera just under $200 without taxes so looking to go about $230-$250 I love the camera i use it everyday and it has the clearest pics was a good price small light weight and never had a problem in the last 2 years. I bought it from circuit city and i have the silver now it comes in black blue and pink. You wont find a camera for that price range to be that good and consumer reports gave it a high rating! It is very user friendly for the young and old and different scene pics too like beach, snow, sky, night, portrait, and others check it out go to the store and test it you will love it and sony is a solid company!

Ive had a Canon Power Shot for about 6 months now and I love it. Im pretty sure it'd be right in your price range. Ive used it at concerts, it zooms great and on moving things like horses running and things like that. Id definitely reccommend it.

I recommend the Casio Exlim camera's.
If you want a great zoom your going to have to get a digital SLR, like a Canon Rebel or Nikon - which are $1Ks by the time your done.
