China Airlines (Taiwan) does have a somewhat dubious safety record, but to be fair, until the recent 737 incident they haven't had an incident in since 2002 and are fully accredited by the FAA, European Joint Aviation Board etc. and were making strides towards becoming known as a much safer airline until the 737 incident, which no one was injured, by the way. They also do maintain a very young fleet of aircraft. I recently flew from SFO to Bangkok on China Airlines because they had a very good business class fare and the service was outstanding, but I normally fly Cathay Pacific which has a near perfect safety record, Eva Airways has never had a fatal event. You could have chosen an airline with a better safety record than China Airlines, but statistically they're still a very safe way to travel.

Switch to EVA Airlines. China Airlines and Korean Airlines have the highest insurance premium in the whole industry. I think it tells you something about the airlines. Insurance premium is not just about the number of accidents or crashes. It includes repairs, resources, etc. I don't like China Airlines services. The flight attendants were rude and the ground staff were terrible.

China Airlines is registered in Taiwan. Its safty record is not very impressive. Why not take Air China, Cathy Pacific or other Asian airlines to Hongkong and then from HK to Taipei? You will have more airlines to choose from.

I would think the best time to fly on an airline is after an accident, b/c they probably double and triple check everything

Not the best bet, I won't consider to travel by this airline, no matter what!!!!!
I would rather pay more or just stay home!
Cathay Pacific or Singapore Airline are a lot safer!!!!!!
