Three things can help to lower blood pressure. 1) Be no more that your ideal weight 2) it is lowered by regular vigorous CV exercise 3) Minimise salt intake. However even if these three helpful instructions are followed I have never seen a patient with established hypertension lower their blood pressure sufficiently to avoid medication. Cholesterol is reduced and the lipid profile improved also by 3 things. 1) Decrease all animal products in the diet 2) Increase oily fish intake 3) Yet again vigorous exercise improves the profile. Again unfortunately about the best fall in cholesterol that can be maintained with non-pharmacological techniques is a drop of 10% from the initial starting cholesterol. This is seldom sufficient.

Exercise. Lose weight. Drink lots of water. I take Niacin every day and it lowers my cholesterol. If you have an inherited condition, none of those things may help. You may need to go on medication. Go see a doctor. They will monitor your progress or lack thereof. Celery is supposed to help lower blood pressure and so is garlic.

One word for you (from experience) Oatmeal !

Try some recipes on the Internet for oatmeal cookies and muffins.

They are not very tasty but will have a few benefits:
1) Lowe bad cholesterol by absorbing it from the blood.
2) increase metabolism and calories burning (yep, no effort on your side).
3) prevent you from eating more food since it makes you full.

Enjoy

Your best weapons to lower blood pressure are: (1) Limiting your sodium intake, (2) Exercise, and (3) Keeping your stress levels down. If cholesterol is a concern, you should cut out trans fat and sugar/high fructose corn syrup as much as possible. Keep fast food, junk food, and saturated fat to a minimum, and make sure you get plenty of fiber and mono-and-polyunsaturated fats in your diet. Best sources of fiber are: Beans and legumes, apples, whole grains, nuts, and dried fruits like prunes and apricots. Best sources of "good" fats are: Avocadoes, eggs, fish, fish oil, flax seed, flax seed oil, nuts, and olive oil.

Regular exercise is a big help, I'm not a big exercise fan myself, but one way I found to get regular exercise is join a Tai Chi club in your area.
