I want lay down a kitchen floor with self-adheisive 12" floor tiles but I'm not sure if my measurements are correct. with a tape measurer, I've got 16 ft by 11.58 ft. How many square feet is that, or how much sq. feet in 12" tiles do I need to buy?

There's no reason to be sarcastic. I'm not ignorant, I just want to do my own flooring. Are all of you pretty much saying I'm going to have to buy at least 28 boxes of 12 sq. ft. of 12" tiles?

Multiply 16 x 12 = 192 square feet. Every manufacturer has a different amount of square feet in each carton. So, the box will tell you. If for instance there are 20 square feet of tile in the box. 192 divided by 20 = 9.6 boxes. You can't purchase 1/2 a box, so you would round up to 10 boxes. This does not allow for much for waste....so I would add 10%

192 * 10% = 211.2 square feet.....and if we use that same 20 square feet per box = 10.5 boxes.....so 11 boxes of tile.

Make sure to check the square feet on the boxes of tiles you're looking at....it will be on there. Any unopened boxes...you can return.

How many square feet in a 12" tile?
Then seeing as you cannot buy half a tile (.58) you are going to have to go up to the next whole number will be 12 ft. So it is a 16x12ft room.
So multiply it out otherwise you are not smarter than a Grade 2 student.

Multiply 16 by 12. that gives you square feel. So if your tiles are 12x12 you also have the number of tiles you need. Buy more for waste and scrap and errors.

Always start laying tiles in the middle of the room and working outward and upward to the borders, that way you will have even equal coverates around the edges.

Your measurements come out to aprox. 185 sq. ft. Most tiles are sold in boxes of 40 sq. ft. I would buy 5 boxes to compensate for mistakes and having extra tile for future use in case of accidents. Most people say an extra 10% for this.

multiply 16 by 12 and you have your square feet. the tiles you buy should have how many square feet they cover on the box.
