It was today's birthday boy, Arthur Compton!

"For myself, faith begins with a realization that a supreme intelligence brought the universe into being and created man. It is not difficult for me to have this faith, for it is incontrovertible that where there is a plan there is intelligence--an orderly, unfolding universe testifies to the truth of the most majestic statement ever uttered: 'In the beginning God.'"

These are the words of American physicist Arthur Holly Compton, born Sept. 10, 1892, noted for confirming that electromagnetic radiation is at the same time both a wave and a particle. He was a co-recipient of the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1927.

Do you agree with Mr. C?

Thanks for sharing your [rational] views!

VERY good ...thanks for the quote...here's some more..

" I have a fundamental belief in the Word of God....I study the Bible daily". - Isaac Newton

"... It would be perfectly consistent with all we know to say that there was a Being who was responsible for the laws of physics". Stephen Hawking....American Scientist, 73, (1985).

Thanks for the quote. Dr. Compton put it very eloquently. Yes, I agree. Science and faith don't contradict each other, but they explain things differently. God did not go into detail when he had Moses write Genesis. What would have been the point? It's not as if the Hebrews would have known what he was talking about if nuclear energy or whatever was used to create the universe.

I once heard a master plumber tell me that the Plymouth was the best car to buy.

Later, I heard a portrait photographer say that Continental was the best airline.

Then, a famous baseball player told me what aftershave was best.

Should I have believed these people?

Nnnnnnnnnnnnno. Scientists can be as delusional as anyone. Compton hasn't been considered much of a phyisicist for decades.

He was born before the greatest advancements in evolutionary science were made. If he was born later, he'd certainly not have made that statement.

Argument from Authority is a logical fallacy.

But I advise you to keep believing in his words, your delusion will keep you satisfied forever.
