For the give and take of information.
I have been inspired to think more deeply about my beliefs by a lot of atheists here on R&S. That is invaluable to me.
Do you suppose that you have nothing to learn from your atheist brothers and sisters? Might that be just a tad arrogant?

Different way of thinking; Are 'believers' (in God?) and atheists (both believe in the false god of man Gen. 3:5-6; self) really the same?; after all even Satan and his followers believe and tremble (James 2:19). The TRUE believers (Christians) have taken it 'up' to his level (Matt. 18:16, 2 Cor. 13:1; combined with 2 Tim. 3:16-17) i.e. the scriptural old testament is the law of Moses not Genesis-Malachi.

So they can join your intolerance party. Also to teach the poor heathens that there is no science, its all just a big joke of facts and thousands of years of scientific discoveries.
Also teach them to ignore the history of archaeology which proves evolution. So that the heathens won't learn that dinosaurs lived on earth from 230 million years ago until around 65 million years ago, but oddly homosapiens did not appear in the fossil record until around 200,000 years ago in africa. ODD, how could god create the earth and man in 7 days, if mankind only showed up in the last 200,000 years, yet the earth has been here for billions of years.
This only leaves you with few outs, God created evolution, or there is no God, or the bible is not meant to be taken literally. Your choice.

It is fascinating to consider that for thousands of years, religious people have decided that people who disagree with them should be killed, tortured, socially persecuted, or banished. It has always been this way. That is their "solution" to any kind of philosophical dissent. And of course, the bible is loaded with is kind of "solution" too. It is going at this moment in the middle east, and other places. It (banishment) is even advocated by religious fundamentalists here on Yahoo! Answers. Is this the proper, decent, humane way to treat those who happen to disagree with you? Of course it isn't, and it spotlights perhaps the most fundamental hypocracy of religious fundamentalism. It is a fatal flaw.

Believers? Interesting choice of words. I have had many an argument with Atheists because most do not want to admit that they, too are believers. You see, there is no definitive proof, scientific or otherwise, that there is a Creator nor is there any such proof that there is not. If one chooses to believe there is (such as I) or if one chooses to believe there is not (such as Atheists) there is an element of belief not fact involved. Most Atheists refuse to accept this.
Why is this distinction important? Because it proves my point that Atheism is a secular religion. It therefore, has no more validity or right to teach it's religious views than any other religion. The only real true alternative to either are Agnostics who admit they do not know if there is a Creator.
Therefore, public schools should only be teaching that both Creationism and Evolution are possibly correct. To allow only the teaching of evolution, is to, in essence, establish Atheism as the official State religion. That is unconstitutional.

Because we are commanded to show them the light.
The Great Commission is given in Matthew chapter 28, verses 19-20, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Jesus gave this Great Commission to the Apostles shortly before He ascended into Heaven. The Great Commission essentially gives what Jesus expected the Apostles, and those who followed them, to do.

There you go.
There's more important things in life than trying to convince other people you're right anyway.
Now you'll have time to do all those things you've always wanted to do :D
It'd be great if more believers saw things your way.

It is not so much trying to convince them, as for most of them are 'hard hearted' and brainwashed into their ideology, it is about trying to convince those who are 'spectators' to the discussion who are in the middle, and have yet to make up their minds on the issue.
If we are more successful at our 'apologeteics' then the Atheist are then we have saved one more soul, and if by doing so can save at least one more soul, then it is all worth it.

I answer them for two main reasons:
1) Because there might be someone else with a similar question who is being led to the Lord.
2) Because I am led to.

We continue trying to convince non-believer because Jesus said to "feed His sheep". We as believers are taught to go out and witness to others the Good News of everlasting life.
