Check here http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/SOL-by-State.html#50 Looks like 8 years for credit cards and written is 10 years. Some collection agents have been very successful in convincing judges that credit cards are written contracts.

The statute of limitation (SOL) is an affirmative defense you use in court if you are sued. Doesn't mean the collector can't call and try to collect.

They keep selling lists of people who owe money to debt collectors to work out on their own time, after the limitation is up, so this could keep haunting you for up to 2 decades as the lists are recycled. They just did a piece on that two weeks ago on TV.
