Depends on how close you are. Usually around $50 - $75. If you are very close then maybe more if you can afford it. If you are just aquaintances you could get away with $35 to $40.
We were really strapped for cash recently when my husband's nephew got married so we got a little creative. My husband is a decorator so he handled the decorating for the wedding and reception. Later, I made them a photo album with pics that we took at the wedding. Even though they had a professional photographer, I got some unique shots. It was a big hit.

It depends on the formality of the wedding. If it's very formal between $60-$70/
Semi-formal-$50-60
Anything below, about $50.
For family and close friends, I would give about $100

How close are/were you to this person? Just acquaintances? something perhaps along the lines of a gift card to Target for something OK - but won't touch your budget.
If you were/are pals - then look to the registry for something nice - but that won't break your budget.
If you were/are long-time sisterly friends, then you know her tastes/needs/wants/ etc. Gift accordingly - but don't destroy your budget.

First thing I would do if find out if they are registered. My niece is getting married and they have a registry for their honeymoon. If it's just a former co-worker I would say no more than $50 would be appropriate. If it were family I would give more.

$35-$50 as a minimum. I would give more though if I was still close with the person. You don't have to "cover" the cost of your meal like some may say.
