Edit: Hmmm CJ, really, who are you to judge?

Edit: Mr Einstien, yes I knew that. I may not agree with his beliefs about Christianity though. I liked him as a kid too. Something that is missing from our "entertainment" world today is someone who is portrayed as absolutely standing for truth and justice.........

faith alone is empty and pointless... after all, even the demons believe

works, done attempting to become worthy by one's own merit is the pride that comes before a fall

works, done to get a reward or acclaim now, already have their reward.

works, done because it is the right thing to do, either because of "faith", or just because one knows it is the right thing are rewarded eternally.

It is explained by "cause and effect". The "cause" of Abraham's obedience to God was his faith. The things listed in Genesis 26 are the "effects" of his faith.

The three scriptures you listed in the original questions are all places where it quotes from Habakuk 2:4 " The just shall live by (their) faith".

In Romans 1, the emphasis is on who are "the just". Paul goes on therough chapters 2-4 to agrue is it not those who do good things, but those who have faith in Christ.

In Galatains 3, the emphasis is on "by faith". Paul shows that it is "by faith" that we please God. The only good works that count are those which come from faith in God.

In Hebrew 10, the emphasis is on "shall live". Faith is a lifestyle, where we have to live it out every day.

So what Habakuk 2:4 teachs is that "the just" are those who have faith in Christ, learn what his calling is, and walk it out every day. "Faith" is the cause, and "good works" the effect or results.

The Just are the justified. People who are in right standing with GOD.
Faith is expecting GOD to do what he says he'll do.

As far as the Genesis reference and Romans I am clueless as to how they relate at all. I will go look again.

(added) It was by grace through faith that Abraham believed GOD and it was accounted to him a rightiousness and the same goes for Issac and and and and and. I am not sure what you are getting at.
I do hope that helps.

May the Lord richly bless you.

The Just are people who try with their whole heart to keep God's commands, decrees, and laws. Faith is a gift that God's gives those HE has chosen. It's never been a matter of Law or Grace... it's always Law AND Grace. Faith without works(obedience) is dead.

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith." Romans 1:16-17

The just are those who believe (have faith) in the gospel of Christ and obey His commandments.

"But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them." Galatians 3:11-12

The Jews were trying to force the Old Law on the Gentiles and insisting that they must follow the law instead of having faith in Christ and his new commandments. Read chapter 2 and 3 completely to understand what was going on.

"Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him." Hebrews 10:38

We live by faith not by sight. Faith is the main component in believing in Christ. If we do not have faith and belief in Christ, we are lost.

I agree with CJ, in that we are saved by faith, through grace. Once saved, we are expected to show our faith through works. All of the verses you point out, work together. First comes salvation. Then we produce fruit.

Salvation is by faith through grace. Without works, faith is dead. Works does nothing for the unsaved.

Saving faith is believing that Jesus, who is God, died for your sins and rose again, apart from any works at all. Anyone who teaches works for salvation is a false prophet with a false gospel.
