I took my cat to the ER last night because he was having diahrrea and a bit of vomiting. No fever or major lethargy though. After the exam they basically said they didn't know what was wrong with him: no parasites or worms, and no hard or painful abdomen, bloody stool, etc. Did not seem like anything major to them, they gave me an oral antibiotic to give him and see if it clears up. This was about 2am last night. this morning at 7am when I got up for work, I noticed he has been hiding behind the couch all night...I put a few bits of food in his dish (as the dr. at the ER said to feed him again, as normal). He trotted over to the dish, then had a few bites, was uninterested, and ran back under the couch. He is usually VERY social and it makes me very nervous that he's hiding under the couch and now has no appetite. Should I just wait a couple days to see if it changes, and if not take him back to my regular vet? Is this "hiding" behavior normal?

It could be a change in his diet, that will sometimes cause diarrhea, and vomiting.
My cat hides whenever he gets back from seeing the vet. Whether or not he is sick, or just mad at me for taking him there.
If he didn't start hiding until after he got back from the vet, could be he is just scared.
Is it hot were you live? My cats lose their appetite when it becomes extremely hot. Like it has been lately, but it's probably the food.
It sounds like the vet covered everything and I would take his advice and give your kitty the medicine before going to another vet.
Call your regular vet and see what they say if it would make you feel better.
Hope kitty gets better soon!

i've got by no potential heard of Pepto Bismol being secure for cats. and that i basically did somewhat study and the final consensus replaced into to dodge giving that to cats, so i actual does not threat it. The components i found even pronounced that this is poisonous. And damaging toddler, human drugs are designed for human beings, no longer our little kitties- as humorous as a cat in a Pepto Bismol advertisement could be. truly, take your cat to the vet on the subsequent available risk if the diarrhea persists. If it does not then it would basically be some thing your cat ate. interior the period in-between, verify your cat is getting a lot of water. She'll prefer it if she's dropping fluids by way of diarrhea. solid success!

I would give him water for a day only and see if he needs it he may also just be scared from the vomiting and vet's visit. Give him a different food try Fancy Feast real meat it's great my cats love and its' not pressed meat its real flakes of meat. Good luck and really watch the water and make sure his litter box it thouroughly washed out and put new litter in it. Good luck its so terrifying when your cat is ill your a great cat lover to take it in at two in the morning. Kudo's to you.

You really should see your regular Vet. or find one. ER's for pets are stop-gap treatment at best. You mentioned your cat vomiting. Your regular vet can also treat your cat for that-sometimes antibiotic themselves can cause vomiting...Centrine is often used by oral administration or injection. Over the counter remedies like kaopectate can be helpful but still, you need to consult your regular/local vet for dosage. Please post back and let us know. Hiding when they feel ill or pissed at you are normal cat behaviors.

He is obviously sick. I hope it is not very serious, but it's better to take him to your vet to have blood tests if he is not eating.

try another vet...

maybe your animal needs bloodwork?

maybe if you called and discussed with another vet, he or she might have some suggestions or ideas.

i hope your cat recovers... sending hugs.
