Well, what do you think?

I think he's right on.

The Bible says "be fruitful and multiply" ...for Bible based denominations, why are they not doing this? Why is it only Catholics?

We are created in the image of God. We are to worship him. But instead we have put ourselves first, our own selfish desires come before the commands of God. The fallout is ultimately going to be worse than we can imagine.

If we were to all follow the commandments of God, individually and as a society we would see the great things God had intended for us. The Pope knows this, it is his job as the Vicar of Christ to point the way towards heaven. That is what he does. Making popular statements isn't part of his job.

I think what the Pope was trying to say is that people are having less kids these days because they want more and more material possessions..greediness essentially. I think the headline should have been "Pope blasts Europeans for materialistic lifestyle.."

If your Christian sect abides by the 1, 2 Timothy in the NT, then you should be having many children to prolong the religions longevity..

From what I understand, this is a very very traditional Pope...so unless you choose to focus purely on your spiritual life and devote yourself as a nun, priest, etc. then you should populate the world as you can..that doesn't mean that you shouldn't live within your means though.

I think he makes an excellent point. I have heard that Europe has had a deficit in population for the last few years (in other words: the people dying outnumber the people being born). Of course I'm not sure what the sources are for this statement. But hearing that the pope gave a speech like that certainly makes me think the statement is true.

In my religion (I'm not Catholic, by the way) abortion is only acceptable in a few rare cases. Such as: if the woman is raped (and abortion is the decision reached after deep thought, prayer, and other considerations are taken into account).

"Europe has become child-poor. We want everything for ourselves and place little trust in the future," the pope told a crowd of faithful from his canopied area at an open-air, afternoon mass that took place under heavy rain.

But Benedict held out hope, saying: "The earth will be deprived of a future only when the forces of the human heart and of reason illuminated by the heart are extinguished . . . Where God is, there is the future."

Why does it have to be how my religion views this, and not how I view this? Why do I have to rely on some "official" religion's stance?

This is absurd.

If the Pope wants Catholics to produce more Catholics, then its none of my business.

I think Europeans mostly don't care what the Pope has to say about procreation.

The Pope is so annoying. Why do people still listen to the man with the funny hat?

This is why people who know nothing about sex or procreation should not be allowed to make policy decisions regarding either....

He's afraid that the church is going to lose followers... and lose money!
And that Muslims will take over!

My church doesn't tell people how many children to have or to even have any, I'm a Christian.
